At least on the type of chair my Mom had, it would not have worked. It does slide off of the chair easily though, so it could be removed and the swing out used. The fixed armrest on the wheelchair that we used this pillow for had an armrest that was about 3 inches wide. The pillow slipped over it nicely. I was amazed by how much this helped my Mother to sit straighter and be more comfortable. It also reduced my concerns about her getting her hand/arm caught in the wheel. **Q: Cover that fits? Anyone?** A: I had the same question a few years ago, myself. We would take the cover off and wash by hand in some "baby shampoo" and air dry. It also cleans pretty well when you scrub it with a disinfectant wipe. I would suggest that someone could sew a new cover, I almost attempted it myself, but the original one lasted for years through the hand washings.
