It's a genuine, German Made cuckoo clock, with the basics. It's not a $1k clock, but if you want a real basic cuckoo clock, it will do. Mine came witha small wood piece coming off. A little elmer's glue fixed it.

Does this clock play music? If so, what song does it play?

no. This clock does not play music. It just makes the coo coo sound.

What kind of physical movement happens on the clock when it cuckoos? Do the windows open, etc?

It opens the window and the cuckoo calls once every half hour.At the full hour he calls depending on the time.

Does this clock have volume control and silent mode?

No, es the clock is a mechanical clock and the cuckoo call and music are made mechanicaly there is no volume control. You con only place the clock away from you. But the clock has a night shut off, so you can completely turn off the cuckoo call and the music.
