Best thing I've found for emulation.
I love this little guy, have been putting it through alot of work and the battery keeps on going. It's got a solid build quality except for the buttons and dpad. The dpad squeaks and feels a little squishy but it works for everything. Just agitating when It squeaks and doesn't work how I like. The a button tends to stick at times but it's been getting better with use. Over all I love it. If these issues could be fixed in the next version I'd love it all the more. If you're looking for something as portable as your phone and don't wanna haul around a Bluetooth controller, then this is perfect for you. It runs up to PlayStation one and psp games flawlessly. It can get a bit warm while playing PlayStation games but nothing that's bothered me.

Excellent Device
I was a bit skeptical at first about getting this device but then finally gave in after all the positive reviews both here and on YouTube. I would like to start off with shipping. I have never received anything this fast with the free shipping option. I got this device literally 72 hours from ordering it. The device itself I feel is well built, a bit tight on the hinges but I'm sure has its reason. I wish the 64gb version came in other color options. Has nice sound, battery life is amazing, and the screen is crisp. The built in emulators are great but I prefer my own installed emulators due to the lack of a settings option for a widescreen ratio with the built in ones. The device is suppose to support SD cards only up to 128gb, but I have a 200gb one in it that works just fine. The device only gets warm when I'm playing the android version of GTA on max settings and it has never skipped a beat, froze, or glitched on me so far. The button to touchscreen mapping feature works great too. I am very happy, surprised, and amazed with my experience with this device.

Heat issues, but otherwise I love this device!
The GPD XD Plus is a fun little gaming tablet. I like that it looks like a Nintendo 3DS XL. It's a clamshell design with built in buttons. Also the screen on it is quite nice. I will say the direction pad on mine is a bit squeaky, but it gets the job done. Also, while this can handle PS1 and android games without frame rate issues, it obviously isn't designed for that. I put a bunch of PS1 games on mine to play and thought better when I realized how hot this system runs trying to play anything PS1. I'm not sure if there is just no heat sink or what, but the whole system gets super hot to touch. I was playing Tales of Destiny II and it felt like my GPD XD was burning my hands while I held it. It was not comfortable for me at all. I finally gave up and deleted my PS1 games. I found playing N64 games also heated the device up, but I didn't play it long enough to see if it would hurt my fingers as well. Once it started to get too warm I decided that was enough torturing myself. LOL I did also notice it got very hot when I was playing Fallout Shelter too (an android game). So that's why I mentioned the PS1 and Android games specifically as not great on the GPD XD. I think for a retro gaming machine this device is fine, as long as your idea of retro is around the age of the SNES and Sega Genesis. I also put some Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games on my device and that was fine too. No heating issues at all. And I love the screen size for playing my Gameboy Advance games. I've been having a lot of fun on this device. I think I actually prefer playing my Gameboy Advance games on this device compared to my actual Gameboy Advance. I will say the reviews of this device coming with a bunch of junk are correct. I pretty much wiped mine and started fresh. So much junk. But it is just an android device after all, so it's easy to customize. I also found it super easy to setup and load with roms. If it wasn't for the heat issues I'd give this device 5 stars. But that was my only disappointment.

A great shield Portable alternative but maybe not the perfect system for everyone
First off I should say I returned this device after a week or two. That's not to say I didn't like it, but I didn't find it quite ready for primetime, at least not for an English speaker. The performance seemed fine, although probably not quite an improvement over my shield Portable. It was definitely close to the shield and much more portable. Of course with the shield being so expensive if you can even find a new one, the gpd is a fine elternative. My biggest issue was the skin over the android OS and the links that send you to Chinese sites. I can't read Chinese so I couldn't figure out how to use these sites. They appeared to be room sites but I couldn't do anything but look at them. I added my own roms, of games I own of course, the same as I do with my shield. Most 16 bit worked fine but n64 was hit or miss as well as psp. I had no luck with dreamcast either, but that's probably pushing the capabilities of the cpu and gpu anyway. It fits well in a 3ds case since they are almost the same size. Performance is great for 16 and some 32 but systems. Some android games worked well too, but I had odd behavior with some also. Samurai 2 wouldn't show the on screen controls so I couldn't get them mapped to make the game playable. There were some other odd issues in some games that really just made the gpd more trouble than it was worth to me. It not terrible at all, it's actually a very cool idea and probably the best portable android game console that's readily available. If you don't want a used shield this is a fine alternative. I wish gpd would work more on localizing the UI and the software and links this has, that would be a good start. I'll watch for gpds new models though. The bud quality is very good and I think they are close to having a very good system to sell. I'll put it this way, although I returned my gpd xd, I did support thier crowd funding campaign for the gpd win and I'm very excited for that wi down handheld.

Awesome!!! Love it, plays all my games and more!!!
This is an awesome little handheld emulator. I tried a couple of other options first, including a PocketSprite (horrid sound and resolution!) and a PiGRRL2 (not bad, but heavy and awkward to hold and not my style). Let me tell you, the GPD is just what I was looking for and I wish I had tried it first. I LOVE THIS THING!!!! I can play games from all types of platforms, including my Steam games (yay!), Nintendo 64 games, and so much more. The GPD even lets you map controls for Android games. Iโm playing the Android version of Bully on it and itโs awesome. The GPD is light, slim, and smooth around the edges. If you like holding a Nintendo DS, youโll like how the GPD feels in your hands, and oh, yes, you can play DS games on it, too. I am a happy camper! (Did I mention that?) Very, very happy with this purchase.

what HDMI output?
ok, first off. this is a great device (for what it is). Normally, I'd give it 5 Stars, but i'll get into that in a bit. I have owned the GPD XD (Blue 32 gb), and replaced it with the GPD XD PLUS (black). Having RetroArch instead of the KO GameBox is great, since the KO GameBox is a poop-fest that would never update. The PLUS has better hardware and generally runs games better than the original. But check YouTube, cause that can be iffy. My real problem was the HDMI output. I found after my purchase that is there is a known issue with out-puting to a 4k screen or receiver. The original worked just fine so it was a real head scratcher. I also found on a forum that by going through a HDMI switch it was easily fixable. It did work fine with a 5 year old Dell 1080p monitor. I went out and purchased 6 different HDMI switchers before I found one that works. Amazon does sell them, "Mt-viki 4 Ports Mini Metal Box Hdmi Splitter Amplifier Switch Mt-sp104m." -1 star: doesn't work out of the box with modern TV's or receivers (in my case a Creative Labs Sonic Carrier) -1 Star: the vendor NEVER responded with my technical support issues -1 Stars: two trips to Fry's Electronics to buy a bunch of HDMI switches that i had to return (bad FAQ + useless forum). -1 Star: FINALLY found a switch that would work by chance talking with someone in a bar.

excellent device
Almost one year and this device is still on top I have different portable consoles Gameboy color, Gameboy advance sp, nintendo Ds, PSP,PS vita, neo geo pocket. And to be honest ... this is my favorite of all !!!!! The emulators works good a very few got some issues but this console is excellent !!!!!. You can do the mapping and adjust the button as you desire. In top of that you got tons of apps and internet conection. With messenger its like also having a phone. A complete package. Phone calls, tablet, portable gaming and so much more. You need to buy your own to actually judge for yourself. I highly recommend the red color for more storage and expand the memory with a sim card. My only issue is that Black is my favorite color and that color has less memory. Other than that everything rocks. Get your own.

A great device!
Bought this a couple months ago but forgot to add a review. It's great! I haven't had the sticky Dpad that some people have been having trouble with, so I got lucky I guess. Emulates flawlessly. There is some slowdown with N64 games, but that's it. Anything before that it runs with no input lag or problems. Runs Ps1 games as if you're playing on the PS1. It has some slight lag sometimes with Nintendo DS games, but it's only certain gameplay heavy titles like Mario kart. This device is pretty much a gaming museum. You can carry it with you to a hangout with friends. If they randomly mention "Man I miss that one game so much, you remember that?" you can basically just hand them the GPD XD + and be like "Yeah here, play it". Look up tutorials on how to get rid of the bloatware that comes with the device though. Don't use the pre-installed softwares.
