The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Plug In Wall with 9-Volt Battery Backup, Digital LED Display uses electrochemical sensor technology to detect poisonous CO gas in your home and alert you by sounding an 85-decibel alarm. Setup is easy as the Kidde carbon monoxide alarm plugs into a standard, 120V AC power outlet in your home, while a 9-volt alkaline battery (included) works as a backup in the event of a power failure. When carbon monoxide is detected, the digital display shows the level of carbon monoxide the alarm is sensing and updates every 15 seconds. Peak Level Memory records the last time carbon monoxide was detected or when the unit was tested. Review: We believe they work as advertised - We ordered two of these for our home. We assume they are working as required to constantly sniff the air for CO. That's what we hope.
Review: Works Great- Very Accurate - I have a gas fire place and a Butane heater which I have been using this very long, cold winter in the Sierras. I was concerned, after reading an article about the amount of Carbon Monoxide both of these might be putting out- though CO is odorless and tasteless, I smelled a different scent after having them on during times of the day and waking up in the morning. I bought the two to cover my bedroom and one to cover the living and dining room areas. Immediately, when both fire place and heater were on, the levels of CO rose to almost 50 (a warning of unacceptable levels). One night I woke up to alarm going off from the sensor in the living area. I could not get it to shut off until I opened the doors in front and back of my mobile home and turning them off. After the level decreased to less than 40 I realized that I needed to turn off the heater at night and decrease the fireplace temperature sensor to 60. My home is well built and insulated and since then, this has worked quite well. When the living area sensor rises to 30, I open the door to my guest bedroom, which is usually closed to keep more heat in the other two areas. This has worked very well, and I no longer smell the heat. Also, double layering clothes has been quite doable.... I am not totally warm and toasty, but I am comfortable. Besides, living in snow country was never meant to be like living in Florida.. This was a very wise purchase and the price was perfect. The instructions are easy to follow. After reviewing many different types, I found this brand, Kidde, was the most favorite of all. Protect yourself and you will still be alive in the morning...

**Q: what is the manufacture date on this? I see a lot of reviews showing old out of date units received.**
A: Ordered in January 2017.  Date of manufacture: October 2003.  People must be careful when ordering these, especially from third party sellers.  I bought one from a third party seller for a ridiculously low price -- big mistake, as the unit was over 13 years old!  (Note: The date of manufacture is on a label on the BACK of the unit, which is not visible when the unit is encased in its original packaging.  There is no way to know the date of manufacture unless you physically remove the unit from its hermetically sealed packaging and examine the label on the back of the unit.)

**Q: Can the alarm funtion be disabled? i want to use in a space where i want higher than normal levels of co2.**
A: Do NOT simply clip one wire to the transducer as in a smarter device a monitoring voltage may discover the alarm is disabled and disarm the monitor entirely. Depending on construction, you also should not remove any coating from a pcb and unsolder the correct terminal. That would probably break the alsrm and a federal statute.

**Q: The Kiddi web site says this has a 10 year life and 10 year warranty for this model900-0076. Are these old ones that your selling?**
A: My old one lasted 7years 5 days 36 minutes.  I just put the new models in and they work fine.  As far as how long they warranty 10 years.

**Q: Can someone explain how to insert the battery?**
A: Remove unit from packaging and turn unit so the AC power connector is facing you.  There is a U shaped section around the AC connector with a series of dashes on both upright section.  Push both of those towards the opposite end of the unit. This will unlock the U shaped cover.  Remove the cover.   My unit came with mounting screws and a drier pack that where inside the battery compartment.  The connector for the battery is visible after removing the items in the compartment.  Connect the battery and install the back cover, you are good to go!

I have a gas fire place and a Butane heater which I have been using this very long, cold winter in the Sierras. I was concerned, after reading an article about the amount of Carbon Monoxide both of these might be putting out- though CO is odorless and tasteless, I smelled a different scent after having them on during times of the day and waking up in the morning. I bought the two to cover my bedroom and one to cover the living and dining room areas. Immediately, when both fire place and heater were on, the levels of CO rose to almost 50 (a warning of unacceptable levels). One night I woke up to alarm going off from the sensor in the living area. I could not get it to shut off until I opened the doors in front and back of my mobile home and turning them off. After the level decreased to less than 40 I realized that I needed to turn off the heater at night and decrease the fireplace temperature sensor to 60. My home is well built and insulated and since then, this has worked quite well. When the living area sensor rises to 30, I open the door to my guest bedroom, which is usually closed to keep more heat in the other two areas. This has worked very well, and I no longer smell the heat. Also, double layering clothes has been quite doable.... I am not totally warm and toasty, but I am comfortable. Besides, living in snow country was never meant to be like living in Florida.. This was a very wise purchase and the price was perfect. The instructions are easy to follow. I have a boiler in one of the bed rooms so thought it was important to have a good alarm .put battery in plugged it in .Reading came up as "0".The next morning it did intermittent bleep I went to check it the battery was flat the plug was red hot ,fire hazard so I sent it back cost me £12.75 to send it to Spain !!!
