I use it when I am in a car that is not my own, and I use it whenever I fly and have to sit in the airplane seats that seam to have a hole in the lower back (If you know what I mean, then you will love this!). It easily stores in my laptop bag so I can use it at long meetings with bad chairs. It works simply and easily, and you can adjust it without moving it simply by opening the nozzle briefly. It is light, small, and stores even smaller. We have Therm-a-Rest camping pads, and have always been super happy with them. After more than a decade of use, they are still holding up! This seems to be exactly the same material and design in a smaller package, so I expect the same. It does take a little practice to get used to adjusting the inflated size if you have never had a Therm-a-Rest product before, but once you get it down it is super simple! The one drawback I can see is that it becomes so integrated to the seat that you are sitting in that you can forget that it is there. If you do that in a rental car then you may never see it again. I find it to be a perfect size for its purpose. The 7x14 area fits right into your lumbar area. The 3" is the thickness when it's fully inflated, but you'll not doubt let some air out to suit your personal comfort level. I can't say enough good things about this pillow. I love mine. I actually left my first one of an airplane, never to be seen again, and immediately ordered a replacement, so as not to be without one. **Q: What is the size of the pillow inflated?** A: 18" by 9" by 2", including a 0.75" flat rim all around. You can get it a bit thicker than 2" by blowing air into it, or a bit (or a lot) thinner by not allowing it to fully inflate. **Q: is this self inflating** A: yes, but after a while, when the valve was screwed closed and pillow rolled up, it kept semi-self-inflating.
