Yes, this will work fine for backing up your drives. The drive type for your internal drive doesn't matter unless you were planning to remove it and plug it into the external bay (you don't need to do that). As long as your internal drive is readable by your system, that's all you need for this to work. Buy a NEW drive for your backup that will fit into the external bay (SATA, or M.2 if you purchased that version), then copy the data from your internal disk to the external disk. You will then have your backup. Note that while the details specifies that it can support up to 20tb drives, it really only appears to be able to support up to 16tb drives (at least the original one without the M.2 slot). If you are stuck with your system only reading up to 2TB's of disk space, but you have a larger drive, that means you used the wrong partition style (MBR), for larger than 2TB capacity drives you need to use the (GPT) partition style. **Q: Is the power supply universal (110-240V) ?** A: 12v ps. Provided...do not use 12v supply with 5v drives. Some drives are ranged 5v to 12v . Some just say 5v. **Q: Will this product support a 6TB?** A: You will probably have to jump through hoops to do so. I tried to run in the firmware and kept getting an error. Contacted support and they wanted me to go through some 20 step process to do so and use a file not from their website. Nobody could explain to me why it wouldn't update with the firmware file on their website that had my product specifically listed. In the end I opted not to do it and went with a different product that natively / out of box supported 6TB and larger **Q: Is it safe to use this for media files and run 24/7?** A: Absolutely. No issues with the capacity, I set up the drive using Minitool Partition Wizard as GPT, NTFS, a single 28TB partition, used with a Windows 11 PC. Installation was easy. The case opens by pressing the large button, the drive inserts easily and the provided screws and screwdriver keep it secure. Note: this button serves as the power and activity light. The actual power is a switch on the back.SMART data is accessible via CrystalDiskInfo. Seagate's Seatools will not detect the drive in this enclosure. Therefore the disclaimer in the product description that SMART is not supported is partially true. It depends on the application trying to access the data.I am using the 28TB drive for backups. It is not intended to run 24 / 7. The temperature on the drive after several hours use is 53C. This is within spec for the drive which maxes at 60C. For comparison, a 10TB Lacie D2 Professional, a 16TB Lacie D2 Professional and an 18TB Iron Wolf in a similar enclosure from another vendor are all also hitting 53C after hours of use.
