desertcart.com: Silence (The Hush, Hush Saga): 9781442426658: Becca Fitzpatrick: Books Review: Guitly Pleasure but not a Epic Novel - Silence was like all of the books in this series, so good you can't put it down but so bad you can't help but notice the discrepancies. However, I rate a book on how hard it is to put down not by the little flaws that annoy me....and this book was impossible to put down! Tiny Semi Spoiler Alert...... The Black Hand has Patch and Nora cornered with his army and Patch has to make a deal with him to prevent The Black hand from killing Nora. Patch vows to act as a spy for The Black Hand and tell him the archangels secret business. In exchange Patch makes The Black Hand vow to leave Nora alone and release her. The Black Hand refuses to release Nora until he gets what he wants from Patch so he holds her hostage. Patch finds himself so disturbed by Nora being held hostage he eventually lets The Black Hand rip out his own wings for her release!! Patch has come to terms with his love for Nora and now knows his life means nothing without her in it. When The Black Hand (aka Hank/ or Nora's dad) decides to release Nora he lets Patch know he is going to erase her memory of the kidnapping. Patch lets The Black Hand know that he wants him to also erase Nora's memories of himself as well. Patch figures if Nora cant remember him & The Black Hand has sworn an oath to stay away from her, Nora now has a chance at a real life. Little does Patch know that The Black Hand will renig on his word about leaving Nora alone. Nora finds herself pretty miserable when she wakes from her ordeal in the local cemetery and can't remember the last 5 months of her life. Nora spends most of the first half of the book trying to piece her life back together. Vee the useless and annoying friend that she is tells Nora nothing about Patch and neither does her mother. Noras mother starts dating Hank (Marcie Millers dad) and Nora knows something is off about him but can't remember what. It's not until Scott Parnell runs into Nora that Nora starts getting clued in about her old life. Scotts been in hiding since Nora told him he was a Nephlim and The Black Hand was bad news. Poor Scotts been living in a cave down by the beach all alone. He is a bright star in this book and I almost liked him as much as Patch. Scott shows his allegence to Nora many times but I'm still not convinced he is 100% reformed. The last half of the book is Nora & Patch working together to try to bring down The Black Hand and stop his army. (It was also alot of smootching going on between Patch & Nora and FINALLY a real love connection). Without giving away too much, this book was the best yet in the series because you get a large dose of Patch. We finally get to see behind the bad boy façade and see his real motives. This book ended with an unexpected twist & BANG! I'm not going to tell you what happened but I will say that I am pretty sure there is another book in the works and I will be first to pre-order it! This is no epic novel, there are many flaws in the writing and Nora is as annoying & reckless as usual, BUT its such an exciting read...really who cares about the rest!? Anyone who likes these books may want to try : When Angels Fall Stephanie Jackson (Author), Tate Jackson (Author) Review: SPLIT!👿👿😆😆 I love love love love love 😍 this book so much but a few things made me just a little peeved😒.... - For readers out there I would suggest this book to anyone who loves action, fantasy, and romance. This book has a sense of mystery as well. It has a great story line and if you haven't already, start at the beginning with hush hush. You will be more than surprised and great fun youo read it if you love any of those caregories of books listed above. This book will drive you over the edge with its suspenseful cliff hangers and its gravitating pull to want to read more. I highly suggest any teen or young adult to read this book. BEWARE IF YOU READ FROM HERE ON AND HAVE NOT READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS OR THIS ONE THERE ARE SPOILERS!!!!! DO NOT READ ON IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE SOME OF THE PARTS IN THIS BOOK RUINED! This book was very thrilling and enticing. Not only did the author inform you more on the way the world that patch lived in, it also helped you see a different side of the story which in turn allows you to form your own side and opinion. In the first two books I still felt like I had little understanding of how things work in Patch's world. This third book not only brought a new light to their situation but helped me get a better grip about how things happen in the past books. It helped me establish a better spot as a reader because I knew more and felt like I could better understand and feel want the characters were going through. I was also pleased with how Patch become more clear about what he felt. In the first books Patch was hesitant to say he loved her for valid reasons even when it was clearly obvious. So it was refreshing to see his character say and do anything for Nora. It was also reassuring as well throughout the book that Nora had Patch and that he was so protective of Nora. I think his character was more stable because of her. I found that it was more alluring for the overall makeup of his character and that it helped me as a reader be reassured throughout the book that Nora would find a way through this. Although the book was good there were still a few things that made me disappointed and peeved. In a small way I feel as the memory loss for Nora impacted her character for a longer period of time than necessary. She lost her sarcastic kind of witty edge as well as her strong moral compass that somehow faltered when it came to Patch and the Nephilim. I also found that when she was regaining her memory from everyone else, there were a few left out part of the book that seemed almost necessary for Nora to understand. In this book I felt Nora went through a lot of turmoil and drama that both heightened the readers need to read a more and made the reader feel and go through what the characters in the book were. Nora was witty and had a moral compass that told her something was wrong. She hated how she was going against it but still had that feeling that she loved it. This side of Nora was so realistic because I know I feel like that a lot and it speaks to true to many instances in any personas daily life. But in this book, her logic and moral compass seemed more blurred and throughout the book I felt as if Nora wasn't Nora. I found that even when she was filled in on the majority of what she missed in those five months, she still had more belief for the Nephil. Which don't get me wrong I would too, but she seemed more lenient to how the fallen angels took over the Nephilim's bodies in the first books. Therefore I believe her view changed because of a washed away me more and some key facts that I felt were left out. As mentioned above, I believe some key parts were left out of the book. This would include the fact that more people would die if the fallen angels didn't possess the Nephil and reverted to humans. Nora's understanding of that I feel was key to her split but firm like belief that the way things were between the fallen angels and Nephil should stay, because while it seemed like a wrong situation it wad better than the alternative. Overall, there were a few things that slightly annoyed me but I did find this book very good and as said in the first paragraph, would recommend this book to any reader who loves action, mystery, romance, and fantasy/fiction.

Solid Third Book
Ten Likes/Dislikes: 1. (+) Nora, the Protagonist - Silence makes it easier to identify with Nora. Not only do you have that first chapter where you really feel for her and the situation she's in, but Nora also admits that some of her choices are stupid. She had a sort of self-deprecating humor and assuredness that made it easier to connect with her. And she knew what she wanted. Nora takes charge of her future, and I like that. I like how much stronger she has gotten with each book in the saga. 2. (+) The Romance - Patch has some pretty sweet, swoon-worthy lines. This is one of the only times he's completely and utterly honest about how he feels though he's still got the bad-boy vibe going for him. And you know, I don't normally like it when I think the protagonist spends too much time talking about how she's looking up into his eyes, but wow, there was something so seductive to the color black and the way Fitzpatrick uses it along with Nora's memory of Patch. Plenty of flirty lines and the chemistry between Patch and Nora still runs deep. 3. (+) The Villain - I'm not even going to pretend I understood him, but at the same time, he felt... real. I would've liked to read more from his perspective, to know what he truly was thinking when he did all those things in the past, but oh well. They always say the scariest villains are the ones who really believe in their cause. Well, there have you it. I definitely felt the danger of what he was doing and wondered what it would lead to. 4. (+) World-Building - Once again, there is a lot more to the fallen angel / archangel / Nephilim world that we learn about. I would list some details here, but I don't want to spoil any of it; just know that it was an interesting touch, and I can't wait to see what the fourth book has in store for this. Also, loose ends regarding the paranormal world I didn't even remember from the previous books were tied up rather nicely in this book. 5. (--) Frustration - Since Nora has lost her memory, a lot of the characters need to tell her what happened to her, who she knew, etc. While it's integral to the story to find out who exactly is lying, there were times when I wanted to say... we already know this! Please, story, can you move on? Can Nora please just remember what happened here so we can move on? 6. (+) The Ending - Though it ends on a cliffhanger--which I normally hate--I have an idea of where the fourth book will head, and I like that. I like where it's headed. When Becca Fitzpatrick first announced that news, I didn't know how to take it or whether or not I liked that she was expanding 'the saga.' This book helped me make up my mind on that end. 7. (+) The Writing - When I read the first chapter of Silence, my first thought was: wow, Becca Fitzpatrick's writing has improved SO much. This is probably the best writing I've read from her! That mostly continues through the book with one snag--the questions. Nora's perspective is filled with questions. Normally, I don't think I would've noticed, but one of my critique partners pointed out how many questions my protagonist asks and got annoyed with the protag for that... so, if you get annoyed when protagonists do that, watch out, I suppose. I personally wasn't bothered by it; there are a lot of questions that need to be asked. 8. (+/-) The Pacing - I did say that I was frustrated with Nora's inability to remember some of the things that we as readers could remember... and that affected the pacing, making it seem a tad slow at points and clogged with back story we already knew. Also, in the beginning, I kept looking for more time with Patch. It also made the book go a little slower in the beginning because I kept expecting him...(don't expect him for a bit)... but other than that, the pacing was fine, and I didn't let the book go until I had finished reading it. 9. (+/-) The Prologue - Becca Fitzpatrick continues her trend of prologues written from another character's perspective. While I think it added great insight into his mind, I also think it would've added more to the suspense and mystery of the novel had she gotten rid of it. Granted, I wasn't able to predict what would happen next in the story, but I think that not having the prologue would've definitely reduced my frustration with Nora, because I too would've been in the dark regarding what had happened to her later. 10. (+) The Cover - it matches the other two! I can't wait to put it next to them on the shelves and see the prettiness all together. I love the black and white and red theme... Though I'm not sure I quite understand the symbolism of the beach. I understood the fall and the lightning from the Hush, Hush and Crescendo covers, but the beach is a little confusing. I do like that they put Patch and Nora together this time; I can see that reflected in the book. Personally, I liked Hush, Hush the best of all the books simply because it was the start of their romance and I think that was quite possibly the most exciting bit--trying to figure out Patch's intentions and what exactly Nora had gotten herself into... but I like Silence more than Crescendo. Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick is a worthy contender in the Hush, Hush saga. Fans will definitely not be disappointed with the sweet romance, suspense, and interesting take on paranormal world-building in this book. Extra Tidbits: -Some people have complained about the absence of Nora's mom in the first two books--how unrealistic that was. Doesn't happen as much in Silence. -Vee is still here, charming as ever before, though I didn't mention her up above. Her role is sort of eclipsed in this novel because of the sheer amount of things going on around Nora. Hope you enjoyed the review!

* Applause*
**FYI, this review contain a spoiler alert for the first two books in the series. I have made it clear so you can skip it if you haven't read "Hush, Hush" or "Crescendo" yet.** I always rate the books I read, but I rarely write reviews. Unless the book is mind-numbing bad or exceptionally good, I feel readers should choose how they feel about a book on their own. Let's face it, 9 times out of 10, I don't agree with the reviews so why add to droves. But "Silence" spoke to me. I felt I need to share. The book was a very easy read...I read the entire book in less than a day. It made me think, it made me chuckle, and it made me sigh. I even liked Scott in this time around. The thing I love most about these books is that Fitzpatrick gave us a strong, intelligent female character that didn't go brainless as soon as her hormones kicked in. Nora is by no means a strait arrow, but she has a good heart and does reckless things for the right reasons. She knows that actions have consequences. She learns from her experiences and is a stronger person because of them. I commend Fitzpatrick for giving us a realistic 17 year old that other girls her age can aspire to be like. Let me start by saying that I was very happy that "Silence" filled in the what I saw as glaring plot holes in both "Hush, Hush" and "Crescendo". It has always bothered me that Nora is human and will eventually grow old and die. Even Patch admits that the human he originally fell for died. How can you have an all consuming love that won't last. Yes they can potentially have 60-70 years together, but what is that to an Angel that is tens of thousands of years old...it's a blink of an eye in comparison. This might not seem like an issue to the targeted audience of this book series, but I'm a bit older and defiantly well read. So this hole really bothered me. But the immortal plot hole was a minor one compared to the on that I found in "Crescendo"... **MINOR SPOILER ALERT FOR CRESCENDO & HUSH, HUSH*** How can Hank Miller be Nora's father and STILL BE ALIVE!!!!! After Nora sacrificed herself and the end of "Hush, Hush" Hank Miller should be dead TOO!!!! **SPOILER DONE*** This revaluation nearly killed the series for me. But the ending of "Crescendo" was so well written that it renewed my faith in Fitzpatrick. If fact, the ending left me literally screaming "NOOOOOOOO!" at my Kindle while frantically pushing the next button repeatably because I couldn't believe it would just stop like that! In "Silence" Fitzpatrick neatly sewed up these gaping holes in the story with a creative elegance that left me with both satisfaction and anticipation for the next book. So many other authors force the answers in at the end as if they only did it because the editor/publisher made them do it. But, with Fitzpatrick, you can tell by the way that the answers were woven into the story that these plot holes were intentional. To me, this shows that the entire series was well thought out. In the end, I greatly enjoyed this book and I look forward to not just the last book in the series, but to all the future stories that Fitzpatrick will weave with the magic of her imagination.

A fast-paced, wildly entertaining and absolutely riveting installment
SILENCE is the fast-paced, wildly entertaining, and absolutely riveting third book in author Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush series. As with its predecessor, it starts off with a captivating prologue that draws readers back into the world. And it continues with a story that will keep readers glued to the page as Nora struggles to remember the past five months of her life. Not only the months she has been missing, but months that encompass her entire relationship with Patch. A boy she can no longer remember even exists. Even as Nora remains in the dark about the world she had once been a part of, a world of Nephilim, fallen angels and archangels, she cannot seem to escape it. And even without her memories intact, when she learns of their existence, of Cheshvan, of the Black Hand's plans for war, of her friends' roles, of hers, she can't sit idly by. Because not only does she have a stake in the outcome of the Black Hand's nefarious plans, she has a vital part to play in them. One that threatens her very existence. And one that could cost her everything if she fails. SILENCE takes Nora's story in an exciting new direction. Instead of immediately continuing on with the love story and the struggle between the immortals, it's almost as if it's a new beginning for the characters and for the reader. With no knowledge of her recent past, Nora must try to rebuild her life from where she last remembers it. Before her discovery of angels. Before she met Patch. And before she became aware of who she really was. All of which creates a new trajectory for the story, a new opportunity to discover a different - and far more likable - Nora, and a chance at a brand new love story. This twist to the story gives readers the advantage as their awareness trumps that of the main character. It puts them in the position of knowing when she's being deceived and of when she's in danger. And it creates moments of tension and nail-biting suspense, heartache and heartbreak that would not otherwise have been part of the reading experience, making for an immensely entertaining read. And with new hurdles for the characters to overcome, new enemies for them to defeat and even more obstacles in the way of a happily ever after, with SILENCE author Becca Fitzpatrick delivers the most exciting, most suspenseful and most gripping installment yet in her Hush, Hush series.

Best book of the series - Nora just needs some character growth
Silence thrilling, action packed, pulse pounding novel. I think it's probably the best book of the series thus far. If I didn't want to smack Nora every other chapter I'd have given this a 4-5 star rating. Sadly I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not a huge Nora fan, and unfortunately for me likeable characters are key for my enjoyment of a series, so take my rating on this book with that in mind. At first I thought my dislike of our gal, Nora, I may have forgiveness issues after all the silly, childish games she played to get under Patch's skin in Cresendo, but now I think it's more than that. Nora is spunky, sassy, and pushy to the point of being belligerent. She has a temper and regularly explodes and spews bitter vitriol filled words at people she cares for. I think it would be very hard to be her friend or boyfriend. Here's the real kicker for me - Nora is also weak. She's the kind of girl that needs a man to save her. Now I like a good "white knight rides to the rescue" moment as much as any girl, but Nora pushes the bounds of patience. She literally can't do anything right. I noticed it finally in this book - anything Nora sets out to do she messes up, gets herself in a bind, and needs someone to come save her. And she sets out to do a LOT of dangerous things. Basically any time you see Nora doing detective or spy work, or trying to help anyone - just watch - she'll do some hair brained thing and get herself caught. Every time. Just once I want to see her do something truly heroic, and bad ass, and SMART, and succeed at it. Just once! Le Sigh. I don't feel her character has grown throughout the series - she's no smarter, savvier, more cautious or bad ass than she was in the beginning. A little growth would be nice - and everything seems to be set up for it thanks to the events of Silence, so I'll hold out hope for the last book. Bad ass Nora cometh! (I hope!) My Nora issues aside, Silence is a very engaging book. Becca Fitzpatrick knows how to write action. Like every book before, Silence is a page turner with nonstop action. From this perspective, it is probably the best book of the series. I loved the ending. It promises VERY interesting things to come. The narrative is great, every scene is painted in vivid detail, transporting us as her readers into each moment alongside Nora. Scott returns - and he's really grown a lot as a character - he's practically yummie! I may even be sensing a tiny bit of love triangle action brewing! Hrrm. Speaking of love - The romance is as steaming. The whole amnesia thing allows us to fall in love with Patch all over again. I love love LOVE Patch. He's every bit as bad ass and awesome in this book as in the others - maybe even more so. Now if Ms. Fitzpatrick could just beef up Nora give her some common sense and strength to match her courage we'd have a series I could really fall in love with!
