Works great but must use lower speed wifi (2.4Ghz).
So far (3 weeks) this temp sensor has been a delight. It was super easy to set up. The app download went fast. Be aware that this sensor requires 2.4GHz WiFi (does not support 5G). The app found my sensor and linked up quickly. It has been logging my fridge temp for the last 3 days. The apps is easy to use and makes sense. Update: It has been a couple of weeks now and this unit is performing flawlessly. I really like the app and the reports it provides. I especially like the time/temp graphs.

Reliable, long battery life, and since they use wi-fi you can always check your temperatures
I have been using these Govee H5179 remote temperature / humidity sensors for a long time and am very pleased with their performance. My house has a detached garage where I have a refrigerator and I have one of these in the freezer compartment and another in the fridge compartment. They connect to the app via wi-fi so I can check them any time I want and be sure that the fridge is working properly. The 3-AA batteries in each sensor last for several months at a time. I've got another of these in a small greenhouse with a heater I use in winter and I can make sure that the temperature in there stays above freezing. As long as the batteries are good - and as I say, they last several months at a time - the sensors are reliable and keep my app updated. The app lets me see temperatures over the past hour, day, week, or longer which is helpful. Each sensor can be fine-tuned via the app to agree with your other thermometers, if you want to do that. I've stayed with these Govee units for 3 or 4 years now and like them.

Critical Failure (but fixed)
Update to original review below: Govee Technical Support says that it found the problem described below and pushed an update to all affected devices on August 21, 2021. Indeed, all four of my Govee devices are now functioning perfectly well. And the best part of it is that I had to do nothing... the problem just "corrected itself". I changed my rating from 1 star to 5 stars since the basic unit functionality is really very good. I am assuming that Govee did indeed really fix this issue and that in the future the units will not appear to have lost Wifi connectivity when they actually have not lost it. Thank you, Govee! Original Review: I have four of these Govee units running into two widely separated physical location. Each location uses Nest (by Google) WiFi routers. When it works, the Govee app reports the appropriate temperature and humidity data. However, sporadically, the Govee units report that they have lost WiFi connectability and stop reporting all data. At that point, if the Govee unit is local to you, you can use the app to correct this situation. However, if the Govee unit is not accessible from your location, it is useless until it can be accessed via Bluetooth from the app. All four of my units have gotten to this state, so it is not a particular physical device that has the problem. I used the words "the Govee units report that they have lost WiFi connectability" intentionally, because I believe that they actually have NOT lost WiFi communications ability. I think that there is a software bug that is leading to them reporting that, and to stop displaying data, even though it is not true. The Nest WiFi system monitors usage of all devices. It maintains data on devices (such as phones) even after they have completely physically disconnected. If the same device subsequently logs onto the Nest WiFi system, the statistics go into the same bucket. The Govee device is very clever and (presumably to save battery) completely disconnects from WiFi when it is not reporting data. However, each device seems to have a unique ID beginning with "ESP" and thus its WiFi usage can be tracked by the Nest WiFi system despite its complete disconnection from WiFi.. Much to my surprise, all of my Govee devices that are marked in the Govee app as not having WiFi connectability, regularly connect and upload and download data (presumably to a Govee server). Furthermore, their upload and download byte counts are approximately the same when the Govee app shows them as connectable to WiFi and when it shows as not connectable to WiFi. This would seem to indicate that the Govee device sometimes CAN connect to WiFi even when the Govee app shows that it cannot. It would seem that some event occurs to make the Govee app flag the device as not-connectable and not report data even though the device is actually connecting and apparently reporting data to the Govee servers. Govee support seems to be really good if you are having routine setup issues. They are patient and walk you through what you need to do. However, in this case, they suggested that I have "someone" that was local to the Govee device download the Govee app, connect via Bluetooth, and reset the WiFi connection. This is obviously not a viable solution for remote monitoring. Since the Govee units go to this state regularly (it seems to take about three or four weeks), it makes them effectively unusable for long-term monitoring. Which, I think, is a pity, since the unit itself really works and makes a lot of "sense" for remote monitoring. I have entertained the idea that there is something nefarious going on here, since these devices are placed in people's property, and connect on a regular basis to the Govee server. But it seems to me that is really a software bug.

Worked Great until they didn't
Bought these for my dry boxes for 3D printing. Nylons need to be dried and stored at around 2-3% RH and the displays that come with most boxes only read down to 10%. If your filament is at 10% it is way to moist, specially a Nylon 6 blend! Worked great with humidity alerts set a 5%+ for about 8 months. Then one stopped connecting to WIFI and will not show up on Bluetooth either. The second one after switching boxes and letting it do a firmware update is now pegged out at 99.9% RH when in the same box the day prior read between 2-3% for the last few months. Update: Govee gave me a full refund. Since I have not found a better WiFi unit I purchased another set.

Convenient, accurate, and for someone like me, give peace of mind knowing temperatures at any time,
The Govee Smart Thermometer Hygrometer is a fantastic product for my uses. I was really concerned about our crawlspace freezing over the winter, so I purchased this to monitor it. To my surprise, we were never in danger of freezing up, so just for the fact that I never had to worry about that, I give the Govee top ratings. It's been on the same batteries for 6 months and is still going strong. It's convenient, the app is very nice, and it transmits well through our floors. I'd definitely buy it again.

Right gadget for the job
I was able to monitor the temperature of our house when we were away for the winter months. A good value and very portable. You just have to have internet connection. Installation is as easy as hanging it on the wall at the height of your choice.

it *must* be calibrated. lag may preclude use as a fan control depending temp swing
It was very off, out of the box, but there is a calibration setting in the app. I was able to calibrate it but was at the max limit for temperature adjustment, so check your unit before the return window closes, in case the error is not correctable. Calibration is easy, just let it sit for a while in a place where you know the temperature. In the app, there are +/- buttons you click until the app and known temps match. Plan to do this when you do the initial setup. Be aware it takes a while to adjust to large swings in temperature. I have it in the attic, when it gets too hot, I can turn on an attic fan. However the thermometer will only change a limited number of degrees/minute, so the temperature reading lags. Even after I turn off the attic fan, the temperature reading continues to drop. I have seen it take almost an hour to read the correct temperature after 40F change. It's useful as a trigger, then have fan run for preset number of minutes instead. Setup with the app was quick and easy. The app shows not only the current temp/humidity, but there's a log for historical data, which is very nice and a feature I was seeking. You can also set up an alert for when the measurement goes out of a user-defined range. However, I was unable to change the alert level after installation, so i had to delete the item from the app and install it all over again, which is a pain. The calibration widgets also don't show up after initial installation, so get it right the first time. These are not settings one would normally change often, so the bug is low impact. So overall, the software is good, but not great. I am happy with the purchase and if your needs match up to its advertised capabilities, then I would recommend it. They also offer a cheaper bluetooth only version. I didn't ding it a star for the lag since an attic has much wilder swings than perhaps is usual.

Works perfectly
I bought this device for our barn which has a WIFI router. The temperature is measured in 10-60 min intervals, depending on your settings. An alarm is sent to your phone and/or email address if the temp is outside of your chosen parameters. All is easy to set up. When the device is near your phone, it connects via bluetooth as well. All parameters can be adjusted this way. Once it's out of reach and connected to WIFI only, some parameters cannot be changed anymore (alert thresholds, network settings, calibration) which threw me off at first. You will need bluetooth connection for that. One tip: to change the batteries, the lid can be pried open and must be completely removed. If you force it open thinking there are hinges like a door you may break it.

Easy to set up
Easy to set up the app. I set it up so that I get notifications when my temperature is over a certain limit. I live in a humid country where I need to monitor my home’s humidity when I’m away for a while (I turn on the AC remotely) to avoid mold. Quite happy with this device.
