Product Description Addams Family: S2 (PS/VIVA/DVD)]]> desertcart.com Based on the original Goth cartoons by Charles "Chas" Addams that ran for decades in the New Yorker magazine, The Addams Family television sitcom portrayed a monster family whose moribund physical appearances were counteracted by each family member's exuberance for passion and adventure. This Volume Two DVD contains twenty-one episodes, including the last of season one and the whole of season two, plus commentaries, and a featurette about the cinematic impact The Addams Family had on American television culture. Premiering the same year as The Munsters, this short-lived series was one of the first two shows to take issue with the Leave It To Beaver aesthetic that dominated television throughout the 50s, in which perfect families narrowly defined normality in the American home. Instead, it starred a family feared by neighbors, who within the boundaries of their haunted Victorian mansion invented their own thriving, not to mention fun, culture. The Addams Family proved that outsiders could be extremely gracious, educated, and interesting, even if eccentricities rendered their looks a threat. These episodes include the original cast: Gomez (John Astin) and Morticia (Carolyn Jones), Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan), the two children Wednesday and Pugley, butler Lurch, hairy Cousin Itt, and the enigmatic hand, Thing, who plays castanets for the married couples' cha cha parties, and looks up things in phone books. Macabre humor in each episode reverses average, expected logic. Flower arranging, for Morticia, involves de-budding and stripping roses of all but the thorns. In "Morticia, The Sculptress," Gomez bribes a local art dealer to buy Morticia's hideous art at the Addams Family's own expense, revealing Gomez to be a strange but loving husband. In most episodes, such as "Lurch, The Teenage Idol" and "Cousin Itt and the Vocational Counselor," The Addams' aim to help their loved ones succeed, in these cases Lurch, as a harpsichord-playing pop star, and Itt, on a career search for an unintelligible, hair-covered little person. The Addams Family house interior still looks exquisite forty years later, full of taxidermied animals, antique furniture, carnivorous plants, and medieval charm. One watches this show not only for its sets and costumes, but also for its refreshingly wide take on what successful families can look like. --Trinie Dalton Review: Their back {clap, clap} - The Addams family hijinks is back in all of its crazy glory. I still watch these with my own son who thinks this is the craziest family that he has every seen. The parents that tango, the giagantic butler, kids that blow stuff up and a uncle that is a human light bulb, what more could you want? As crazy as the characters are they display more healthy family dynamics than most modern day families. Considering that these were make when most TV parents were not affectionate, Mortica and Gomez come off as down right sexual, but within boundaries because the kids are watching you know! If your looking for more headless roses and crazy visits from "normal people" than watch some of these episodes. Great to watch if your sick or snowed in, too! Review: When comdies were actually FUNNY - I guess they will never actually make really funny comedies like this ever again. No worries about "political correctness", or need to promote some sort of message. This was a series dedicated to one and only one purpose.... being FUNNY!!! And it did so very well. You have to love the deadpan acceptance of the macabre, and, to what would be to the "normal" people in the stories, scary and frightening ideas. I'm not going to comment on the sitcoms of today, except to say that they just aren't really fun to watch. Maybe it's true what more and more people say.... television is starting to fade from prominence.

Family Fun
My whole family (Husband35, S10,&D7) love watching this kookie family and their antics. They are different but wholesome showing that:civility, hospitality, and a loving family - even if they are different isn't a bad thing. It is a bit back dated to the US 60s in some cultural references but it has aged well unlike other tvs of the era. It doesnt have the sexism or the dad who doesnt care or gaslights his wife tropes of other shows. I like this version of the family the best. Worth paying for and owning !

Love this DVD! Now a huge fan
I was too young to really remember Adams Family, its not on tv very often. I watched it and laughed out loud. Its funny without violence, or profanity. I found the entire season at a large "supercenter" for $65, but its much cheaper to buy the seasons here. Its worth every penny several times over. Its a great dvd for an entire family to enjoy without uncomfortable language or violence.

Such a fantastic show!
I have been a huge Addams fan since I was a little kid. I remember loving the Charles Addams books my grandmother had. (I was an odd child raised by some odd people) This show is just so fantastically fun. I love that instead of portraying the Addams' as the weirdos, it pokes fun at how weird "normal" people are. And of course, I think Morticia and Gomez may have the best marriage ever portrayed on TV. Get all three volumes.

sice i am a big addamsfan i have longed for this release of the old tv-series. we have had them on the telly back in early 1980 in sweden as a replay but i could not get hold of them ,so i am very pleased with my purchase.the original episodes were broadcast in sweden when i was just five or six years old but i still remember that i was fashionated of them, even thoug i was not allowed to watch it. today i am 43 years old and i get setteled in the couch with a good glas of red wine and i watch two or three episodes in a row. i especially like the comments from the actors and the special features given to me from the dvd.i can really recomend this dvd . carina

Best Tv horror family
What can you say about the classy Addams Family that hasn't already been said before. Fine acting by everyone, almost makes this family believable. Love the absurdities, and all the great props in their mansion. The Munsters are a cartoon family compared to the Addams Family. Munsters did have some funny episodes, but were simply to cartoonish to be believable. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Cousin Itt, Thing, Grand Mama, Uncle Fester and Wednesday were all a hoot. Wish I could have lived next door to them.

Another fine collection of Addams family episodes. The highlight for me being the one where Lurch becomes a Pop Star. Brilliant stuff. Well acted and every character perfectly portrayed. This set has a couple of nice extras. The "Audio" commentary by Thing and Cousin Itt being short but very sweet. If you watched it as a kid, buy it for the memories. If you haven't experienced it yet, buy it for the laughs. They're altogether Ooky.
