White-Rodgers Line Voltage Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat, 1E65-144

This thermostat is doing its job very satisfactorily since early March 2013 when I purchased it from Amazon. I am using it in my two car (compact) garage to keep the place warm at 55 F. My heating source is a 1500 Watts Honeywell oscillating heater fan that is almost 15 years old. Previously I used to keep the heater on 24 X 7 at low or medium settings. This line-voltage thermostat is now saving power and money for me by doing the job right. PD Gupta, MA

I noted some not so positive reviews before purchasing but thought all would be OK anyway, this is exactly what I wanted, from a good brand name company. I was not so lucky. The first Thermostat did not work and its replacement that Amazon sent out also had the same problems. White-Rodgers (W-R) technical support was not well informed on how their unit works as I spoke to at least 3 support people over several days. The unit comes with a surprise note inside the package informing you it takes the thermostat 4 hours (from my memory, could have been 6) to adjust and equalize itself (readings might not be accurate) in my words when you first power it up. This was not in the instruction manual I read online at W-R before purchasing, nor in the manual that comes with the unit but a special little one page apparently after thought insert. Not a problem I could live with that. The White -Rodgers support people did not seem to know about that equalizing thing either. W-R support also kept telling me to press certain buttons to reset the unit back to the factory default. Support actually decided it’s a defective unit and that’s why Amazon sent the second unit. I keep explaining funny thing, if I press a different combination of buttons the unit really does reset it’s self but no one was listening either before or after they sent out the second unit. W-R technical support would tell me to listen for the relay to click in when the unit was calling for heat and I keep explaining this is a completely solid state unit, transistors don't click, and there is no click. My unit's ambient temperature readings keep drifting by several degrees from what two different reference thermometers were showing. The call for heat, the "On & Off " function did not always come on within a degree consistently, sometimes differing by 5 or more degrees of what the unit was reading. Sometimes the thermostats would come on long (several degrees) before they should when an hour earlier all had been cycling on and off OK. There were times when everything looked like it might be working OK but a few hours later, maybe the next day when I would look and it was back to the original problems. As you may have gathered I am fairly technically capable and actually set up a separate test system, bypassing my heater and all its wiring, they still were not stable. Several days, a week or so, into what should have been a simple project, now needing to leave on vacation, I finally just ran out of time and had to return the thermostats. I am sure they were defective. Amazon (always very nice & always a good place to buy from) reported that White-Rodgers said the units tested OK. I certainly question W-R's testing abilities from the support people I spoke with, pleasant but not well informed, including a pleasant supervisor at the last that never did call back. I am left wondering if they really want to know or just consider all consumers technically challenged. I am also wondering if they just did not test the thermostats beyond the initial startup period. I still need a fully solid state electronic thermostat, but buyer beware. Please post if you made a purchase of the same product with good luck after my May 6, 2014 purchase.

Does what a thermostat should do...keeps the room at a set temperature. Instead of a full on, full off switch like others provide, this thermostat modulates the heat to maintain a very we'll regulated temperature in the room. I'm convinced it will save money on my electric bill too! Very good product was easy to install and set up.

Did not work as described and had to return it. It says it is no-programmable, but it can be programmable. I just wanted a simple thermostat that is all manual. I went with the Whit Rogers non-programmable and it work great.

Bought the first one and had a hard time to calibrate, bought two more and a week has gone by and still unable to calibrate the second one, the temperature seem go too high or too low, set to 68 degrees and would go up around 80 degrees or drop down to 62 degrees. it's just no worth the aggravation, the third one in still on the box unopened and will send it back to Amazon I had to reinstall the old thermestats that still work but don't give me a reading of the room temperature. I can live with that.

Very hard to figure out the calibration for existing temperature display, witch is adjustable? Down to .1 degrees, still cycles on and off a lot, within a .5 degree change. Basically it almost to smart and to dang accurate, could be simplified.

Works great. Seems to do the adaptive heating very well. I can actually feel the difference at times where the heater isn't getting as hot when it doesn't need it. Way less temperature swing in my room and silent operation. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is buttons could offer more feedback when you push them. Otherwise, outstanding basic digital thermostat for running baseboards or any other line voltage heater. Only has two wires so it controls one of the hot leads. No battery needed. Easy install.

As has been said by others here, these units need to be pulled from the market. Consistantely holding temperature about 10C degrees hotter than set.
