One Mic, Endless Control — Broadcast-Quality Audio That Adapts to Anything
I’ve used a lot of on-camera and mobile mics over the years, and the Shure MV88+ Video Kit stands out because it genuinely adapts to how you work, not the other way around. I use this mic in two very different scenarios: video production and live sports broadcasting as a dedicated crowd-noise mic. The flexibility is what makes it special. Through the Shure MOTIV app, I can change polar patterns on the fly — wide stereo for crowd ambience, tighter patterns for interviews, or a more focused setup when I need clarity in noisy environments. The app isn’t just basic gain control either. I can dial in EQ, compression, limiter settings, and noise reduction (including wind handling) exactly how I want. The key part — and something many people don’t realize — is that once those settings are saved, they live on the mic itself. I set it up on my phone, disconnect, and then plug the mic straight into a camera, recorder, or even a mixing board, and it retains those settings. That’s huge for live work. In a basketball broadcast environment, I’ll configure it specifically as a crowd mic, mount it high, and let it do its thing. For interviews or video shoots, it quickly becomes a studio-quality condenser with clean, detailed sound that Shure is known for. If you’re buying it, I strongly recommend the Video/Media Kit version. It comes with nearly everything you’ll need right out of the box and saves you from hunting down accessories later. This is the kind of gear that rewards experience — the more you understand audio, the more powerful it becomes. Compact, reliable, and incredibly versatile. An easy 5-star mic for anyone serious about sound without dragging around a full studio setup.

Awesome portable microphone kit!
Update: I've used this for 9 months now for recording live music. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Remember: This microphone is good with default settings, and it is GREAT reward if you take time to understand it. If haven't already, check on setting proper gain level, recording format, mic pattern, limiter, compressor, positioning, etc. Enjoy! I’ve used this for 3 months recording live music. This is a high quality microphone with many options and practical accessories. It is simple to use. Audio review: The microphone has many pattern settings from wide angle to focused. When set up properly, sound quality is significantly better iPhone 16 Pro. Bass is noticeably cleaner and more defined. I use this for symphony/brass/wind bands. Shure recording app works seamlessly with iOS and provides simple premade recording settings (voice, acoustic, band, etc.) while still allowing full customization of mic pattern, gain, compression, and limiter. However you must practice with the software and mic setup. It takes a few tries to understand everything. I only use iPhone and haven’t tried Android. Read the instructions here—don’t forget to turn on airplane mode and do not disturb focus. Gear setup review: This is a great tiny kit rolled into a durable soft case. Setup is quick and sturdy, and can be done easily in the dark/live music setting. Standard tripod hardware means you can use any tripod, though the Pixi is fine. Mic connects directly to phone with provided standard cords. I really love the roll-up case with its mesh pockets. Small gear like this can be easy to lose, but Shure went out of its way to help you here. If you want to greatly improve your phone audio recording quality, are willing to test it out a few times, and need portable gear, this is a great choice.

Compact feature packed high fidelity portable microphone.
I'm a musician and an audiophile. I know good sound. This little mic is simply amazing. I've owned the MV5 baseball style mic, which sounded just OK, and had a god-awful stand and was mono. Boo. I also have a Rode Video Mic Me Compact TRRS Cardioid Mini - Shotgun Microphone - again, mono, sounds lackluster - better than the iphone's internal mic, but not much. Stepping up in both size and quality is my Blue Yeti, but that thing is a BEAST and it's not compatible with iOS devices as far as I can tell, so I only use it when recording from my DSLR camera or my computer. I'd say sound quality is a dead heat between the Yeti and the MV88+, but the '88 is so much SMALLER and EASIER to set-up and use, it wins hands down. The iOS app is a little janky, and I don't like the (un-ajustable) presets but it's allows you to configure the mic's pick-up pattern and compression, EQ, limiting, etc and these settings are saved to the mic itself, so they are active in whatever app you use to capture your audio, as long as it's compatible with the mic. Again, I'd say sound quality is similar to the Yeti, but you get more control over the '88 via software than the Yeti's dumb but convenient knobs, while avoiding the Abominable Snow-microphone's phallic presence dominating your desk to say nothing of your mouth as you speak into it. Not that there's anything wrong with that if it's your kink, just beware - the Yeti doesn't travel the way this little gem does. In the end both cost the same so it all comes down to what yer after in terms of style and portability.

Great product. Got a great deal. Mic is one of the best in the price range. Phone mount is basic.
