How do I change the ink if it runs out? Where could I buy replacement?

I took a cheap pen, removed the ink/tip combo, cut it to size and replaced the empty one with this new full one. The pens you get for free work great for this.

Is the pen nib retractable?

The pen nib is not retractable. The pens cap is threaded and can be screwed in on both ends when the cap is either opened or closed.

Is this pen good for self defense?

not as good as a gun or knife or baton, but better than tooth n fingernails. if your pepper spray doesnt stop him, you could do some real dammage with this if you have an aggressive enough attitude about it.
