As the timer is driven mechanically, once the timer expires it can only ring the bell for a very short time and then it will never sound again. Actually, this thing is pretty crappy and the bell sometimes will only sound for much less than a second, and if you miss it then you miss the timer. Sometimes it wasn't sounding at all, especially if you need a short time like a few minutes.
