SketchUp Success for Woodworkers: Four Simple Rules to Create 3D Drawings Quickly and Accurately [Heim, David] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. SketchUp Success for Woodworkers: Four Simple Rules to Create 3D Drawings Quickly and Accurately Review: Very clear and concise, task-oriented user guide. Great way to learn SketchUp! - Great book! Easy to follow with important procedures touched on first, progressively getting into more complex tasks later in the book. This book very logically structures information and walks you through each procedure in clearly written steps and examples. I became proficient with the software in a matter of days. No more pencil and paper for me! Review: Good approach, needs to be updated for Sketchup for the Web user interface - I very much like the focus on woodworking, which makes the tutorials much more relevant to me (a beginning woodworker). The steps are reasonably clear for the most part. However, I'm stumbling because Trimble, the maker of SketchUp*, has made some significant changes to its product lineup, basically into two product: SketchUp Pro and SketchUp for Web. These products have very different user interfaces. If you have one version, you'll be confused if you use a book or tutorial designed for the other version. For some features and functions, you can figure out the mapping, but for others, it's not so easy So, I'd love for Mr. Heim to issue another edition strictly focused on Sketchup for Web. It could have two main sections: the SketchUp piece, and then the extra stuff you can use with the SketchUp Shop product. I'd even offer to be a Guinea Pig. *If you see any books that refer to "Google SketchUp," don't buy them. Google sold SketchUp to Trimble in 2012, so any books on Google SketchUp will be woefully out of date. And there are two versions of the Web product: Free and Shop. I have the Shop version.

Like it.
Good book but like most books on teaching it is a couple versions back and simple. But good nonetheless. Easy to read and follow learning basics I did not find on my own.

Maybe great for Windows machines but for Mac? Not so much!
I bought this book after much research because SketchUp is supposedly the best design software for woodworking and this particular book is listed everywhere as the Bible of SketchUP for woodworking. The claim on the back cover claims the book "will have you downloading SketchUp after breakfast and drawing detailed and useful plans by the time the dinner bell rings." That may or may not be true in the WIndows world but in the Macintosh world this is just plain false. Although the author does go into step by step detail of how to do most things if you're using a Mac, sadly (at least for the first 3 chapters) virtually all of those steps are wrong or missing crucial information. I gave an overall rating of 3 stars because the author does a good job of describing the function of SketchUp as it applies to woodworking. But if you have an Apple product, expect to spend a lot of time with Google and trial and error before you figure out how to make SketchUp useful. So far, good software but not a lot of help if you don't use a Windows PC.

Great book for a great 3d program
Delivery was prime good. Very well done book. I haven't used it as much as I should. It wants to make an expert of me and I'm too lazy to let it.

Challenging but do-able.
I am new to sketchup. While I had extensive experience on computers years ago, being out of the game for several years now has made a challenging learning curve. With that said, this book is written for someone that is a little more current in their knowledge base of modern computing. Do I recommend this book.......yes. but do not expect to set down and give it a quick overview and start designing right away. Give it due diligence. Allow yourself to absorb the information. This book is thorough......just not "simple". But I believe it will get you where you want to be.

Some useful information, not exhaustive but doesn't claim to be, if you're learning sketchup get it as one of your reference books as opposed to getting as your starter book
