Is this millivolt compatible?

Not really... Okay, well TECHNICALLY it is, but don't expect it to run your 50 year old gas furnace with only a thermopile for more than a few days before you have to change the battery. This device requires a constant 24 volts to function, so unless you have another source of power and rely on the batteries ONLY for infrequent backup power, I do NOT recommend this device for millivolt applications.

Does the green light stay on all the time? Or does it turn on when you try to change the temperature or settings?

It only comes on while you make changes to touch a button to check it. The light automatically dims when it's left alone.
