1 Great Fabric + 1 Block = 1 Stunning Quilt! Amaze your friends! Maxine shows you exactly how to choose a large-scale print, figure yardage, cut and piece these drop-dead gorgeous quilts. Big pieces and clever short-cut methods make these quilts go together faster than you'd think. Choose one of two projects or use the techniques in any size quilt you can imagine. • Brand new technique is all about texture, movement, sparkle, and swirl! • Choose hexagons or octagons-you're the designer • Easy random cutting! No planning, no fussy cuts, no mess-ups • Simple piecing with NO Y-SEAMS! Review: really good explanation - I haven't finished one of these quilt tops. The only one I ever finished was in a class and fairly small, and I haven't attached it to batting and backing or (obviously) quilted it so I wouldn't mark this down just because I haven't made one, the quilts I've made in my head are greatly loved. I have bought fabric and cut it into six pieces according to the instructions but I haven't found time yet to start cutting my triangles. Writing this I think I'm going to find time to do that today. Then my someday list will start with sorting the triangles and sorting them matching groups of six. There are instructions for six triangle and eight triangle patterns but since I like the kaleidoscope look of six triangles I'm not terribly interested in eight triangles. I love the look of the advanced patterns with solid or hollow cubes so if I'm a good person and make this quilt top I'll give myself permission to buy Rosenthal's next book. I particularly appreciate that this is a Kindle book. I don't have to worry about losing it, spilling something on it or having the cat chew it up (I've got no idea why he does that, maybe he learned it from the dog we had when he was a kitten). I actually bought my Kindle fire more for instructional books than for fiction. It gives me a big enough picture, in color, to make it easy to follow the instruction and I never have to worry about keeping the pages open flat. Review: Used book - A used book that is in perfect condition. Could not ask for a better product

really good explanation
I haven't finished one of these quilt tops. One-Block Wonders. Wonderful book, wonderful quilts.
Fantastic book that covers all stages of making a beautiful one-block wonder quilt from fabric selection to finishing the quilt top. A lot of color photos that detail the types of fabrics that work well for this technique versus those that don't work as well. Step-by-step illustrated instructions on cutting fabric, piecing blocks, designing the quilt, finishing the top. Many photographs of finished quilts as well with the original fabric for reference. Also covers variations on the technique from the standard hexagons to octagons and incorporating cubes into the design. This book makes it easy and fun to make a beautiful quilt, even for a beginner such as myself -- don't be afraid by the seemingly complex designs!

Inspirational
The author's text is clear and engaging. The Photos of the quilts are inspiring. The "how-to" instructions are clear if you have lots of experience using a rotary cutter on fabric ,with a 24" ruler, but not a beginner level. I will choose cheap "throw away" fabric to follow the instructions step by step. And I've made hexagons in this method before without a problem. There are NO patterns to follow to make any particular quilt. Just a conversation of how to cut, assemble, and sew them into a new whole cloth that does not need a secondary fabric to make the main quilt center of all kaleidoscope pieces. There is also a section of the book on 8 piece designs. There are recommendations on the amount of fabric to buy and the size of the items in the fabric print.

One Block Wonder instruction book
This high quality paperback book guides you through the process of making a One-Block Wonder quilt top. I bought it for an upcoming class I'm taking. It has lots of pictures for inspiration and to help you with fabric pattern selection for good results (not all fabric designs will work well). I also got a pretty good idea of just what the process will be, but won't be trying it out until the class.

The quilt you make will truly be a wonder!
It's all in the fabric you choose! The author gives helpful guidelines to follow in picking out your fabric for the most stunning results. Read all the instructions first because even washing your fabric can affect cutting it. Lining up the fabric for cutting is the most specific step and I read the instructions over several times to make sure I did it correctly. After that, it is a simple process and produces amazing and beautiful quilts. Even though you use the same process and even the same fabric, your quilt will never look like anyone else's. Such fun, especially designing with the blocks. And, yes, it is a little like the Stack and Whack process, but the layout is different. My advice is to keep a small amount of the original fabric because nobody will believe the resulting quilt came from that one fabric. Can't wait until the second book comes out in June 2008.

Full of explanations, directions, and photos!
I liked the wealth of information and photos to guide. Our guild will be doing a step by step workshop in August. In the meantime, I’ll attempt putting one together according to the book! It’ll be smaller is the only difference!

Fantastisch

Get Your Motor Running
I bought this with 2 other books by the same author. This one is the great start, let's get going. Lots of examples, easy to follow. I've made 3 samples from the books in order to teach this. Maybe a full size quilt in the future.

Thank you Amazon.com.au !!!
I wanted to share a new technique with a good friend in Australia, but since I live in San Diego, California USA, it was difficult. I really could not share all the details without being sure she, at least, had a visual guide in front of her. I was able to purchase the book and have it shipped quickly to her in Australia for much less than it would have been for me to buy the book here and then post it to her. We are now happily making hexagons in separate countries and sharing pictures of our progress.
