Good value for money Review: Installation is not supported outside the US and Canada - but there is a work around - I have two previous generation August smartlocks for a few years for two doors. One broke and so I bought this one as a replacement. I was very grateful that it was for sale on desertcart in the UK. The problem – as others have said – is that the August app does not now allow the lock to be installed outside Canada. Yale in the UK were not able to help. I found a workaround which was to install the Yale access app from the US Apple app store – I had a US Apple account. I then spoke with the US August help line who were able to help me deregistering the other device and the keypads from the August app so I could register it with the Yale account. If you are going through this process 2 bits of further advice: 1. Make a note of all the serial numbers before you start. 2. If you are setting up a second account with Yale, use a different phone number and email address than you have with August. If you use the same, your account at August is cleared. Will this be a problem?** A: The stickiness of the door if you are talking about the door being hard to close, is probably due to the hinges being misaligned or settling of the home over time which unfortunately goes beyond any lock, but after forcing it closed can still leave the lock misaligned with the hole in the frame that the lock bolt goes in to. However if the door closes all the way easily the stickiness of deadbolt is likely caused by the inner workings of the deadbolt itself, since the August smart only replaces the thumb turn on the inner side of the door to add smart lock capacity to the same mechanical components of the lock, it will not fix this particular problem, and if it is indeed the deadbolt itself you will need to replace that. **Q: Is there any solution to be able to use with 5 ghz wifi?** A: Issue is only with those using mesh wifi systems, which use the same ssid for both 2.4 and 5GHz. 5GHz fades at distance before 2.4GHz. The best solution I've found is to simply walk far enough away from wifi that 5Ghz fades and the app (phone) is automatically switched to 2.4GHz. It usually takes about 20-30 yards to be out of 5GHz range and the phone will only see 2.4GHz and setup goes smoothly. Note: you only need to do this during initial setup. Then it works seamlessly. This technique works with smart switches too. **Q: Is there an optinon for key on both sides, so that a perp cannot just break window and reach around to unlock door?** A: If someone breaks a window to open the lock, the lock will notify you it has been unlocked manually. Any time one of these locks is unlocked, either manually from the inside or the outside, or with the August App or using HomeKit, my watch buzzes me, and my phone gets an alert as well. I'm using my Apple Watch for sleep tracking now, so I wear it while I'm sleeping. If someone unlocks a lock, I'll know. **Q: Is this compatible with kwikset downtown single cylinder deadbolt?** A: Yes, most of the Kwikset single cylinder deadbolts work fine. I had an old Kwikset lock and it worked fine with my August smart locks of the 2nd and now 4th generations. It’s a great product! ### ⭐ DO NOT BUY. AVOID USING THIS SELLER!!! *by R***N on 4 January 2025* To use the lock you need to register an account with August home. However there has been a change at the company and you now need a US phone number to be able to register (do a search on google and there are lots of of articles about it). Therefore there is no way to use this app in the Uk and the seller should not be selling it. Unbelievably the seller took off £40 from the refund (plus I had to pay £10 to send it back) as they said it (a) had been opened (which of course it was!) and (b) it was in a used condition (no idea how as given I couldn’t register an account I haven’t used the lock at all).
