Wow is all I can say after devouring this wonderful action-packed ride that James Rollins creates in THE LAST ODYSSEY. Filled with science marvels, historical gems and a threat to contemporary day world, the author creates a story that will leave you on the edge of your seat till the very last page is read. I love this author’s books as he weaves a story filled with historical facts and myths, science marvels and more that somehow work in his Sigma Force series and add in colorful and yet complex characters, well, lets just say, get ready for a wild ride each and every time you pick up one of this author’s books. Filled with twists and turns, this story flows smoothly, delivering you on a journey that may or may not be true in real life and you can’t help but be drawn into the world he has created as you fly alongside these amazing characters as they race against the clock to stop destruction yet again. THE LAST ODYSSEY is full of amazing characters and being the fifteenth book, I can honestly say this author tops his last release spectacularly. Some Easter eggs are thrown in that will shock you to the core and I flipped the pages eager to see where this author’s story ill take you next. I have my favorites within the Sigma Force characters and I couldn’t help but gasp is few times as they got in one adventure after another. Ad in some new characters to help things along, well you got the makings for a wild, action packed ride that will leave you breathless till the end. THE LAST ODYSSEY is a wild ride and one you can not put down. So, strap in, get ready for an adventure of a lifetime and enter the gates of Hell with the Sigma team. Just don’t forget to breath along the way as you get caught up in the adventures and twists of the story. I can not wait to see where this author goes next because each time, I think he can’t top himself; he succeeds beyond my wildest imagination. This is an objective review and not an endorsement

As always, James Rollins, does not disappoint. The Last Odyssey is an excellent read. From Greenland to Morocco, the action never stops. Trying to find the route to Tartarus, from Homer’s Odyssey, the Sigma Force crew go full steam into the fray, finding that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. The Sigma Force gets tasked with finding a mysterious lost city in the Mediterranean Sea region after an ancient ship is discovered inside a glacier in Greenland containing tantalizing clues to the existence of a mythological civilization that invaded the Mediterranean area and brought about the Greek Dark Ages. Why is this important to Sigma Force? Because another group is also seeking this lost city and not for humanitarian reasons. It's up to Sigma to stop them. There is plenty of action in this book and much of the story is based on mythology and what some experts believe are facts. This was, to me, the best part of the book. I've always felt that many of the ancient myths are based to a certain degree on historical events. Discoveries made by the characters in the book utilize some of these theories as well as some of the author's own theories. It's good stuff.

I have to admit that the first half of this book was better than the last half. Not that it is a bad book, far from it in fact, just that it get a bit surreal. I also kept thinking that it would make one hell of a movie. The special effects alone would be worth the price of admission. Anyway, on to the good stuff. Again this book is another amazing book from this author and another fabulous instalment of this series that is hard to put down. I was supposed to get things done around the house but nothing was accomplished because i couldn't put this book down just like all the previous books in this series and I already can't wait for the next book to come out, so if you haven't read this series i recommend starting with the first book and working your way through them all and I guarantee you won't be disappointed and if you decide to just start here it's a book that you don't have to have read the previous ones to understand but if you decide to go back to the beginning there will be some spoilers in this book for the previous ones. So if your at home quarantining and looking for a new book or series I recommend this one over all the other series i read. My girl loves to read and she loves this series

James Rollins always delivers adventure, excitement and engaging characters, but what brings me back book after book is the intelligence and his use of history and artifact to hook my mind. Rollins is not a writer who will allow you to read yourself to sleep, no matter how cozy your nest or nook. Your eyes will stay peeled and your brain hurtling along at high speed for the entirety of the tale.

Hard to write a review without spoilers. Typical Sigma force fare. Explosions , and villains, puzzles to solve, deadlines to beat, new heroes to welcome into the family. Generally a heady combination of myth, science, and technology. Artfully done, Rollins does not disappoint. What keeps this installation a 4? I am disappointed that Painter, Monk, and Kat, have morphed into worried bureaucrats, or worse yet seemingly headed for early retirement. I like Grey and Seichan as much as the next guy, but knowing I'm expressing an unpopular viewpoint, I wouldn't mind them sitting one out to bring my favorite characters back into action ( other than making phone calls and sending supplies and gasp baby sitting!) Kowalski remains a favorite - I would appreciate him being seen as having his own unique and necessary skill set, as opposed to only muscle and wisecracks, how many times can he be glared at or hushed? Anyway, still a good and enjoyable read.

Using Ancient Greek, Arab and other histories, writings and research, Rollins weaves out a tale of intrigue and adventure to save the world from a cult who wish to advance the timeline to world end. Learned so much history and information that I had no knowledge of prior to reading this novel. The characters were believable and full of many surprises. Loved the twists and turns in location, storyline and action the author took to make a fascinating journey I won’t soon forget. In fact, I might just have to do more research on my own! Well worth the read.

James Rollins hat auch in seinen bisherigen SIGMA-Romanen mit Ideen nicht gegeizt, doch was er sich hier leistet schlägt dem Fass den Boden aus: sämtliche mythischen Monster aus Homers "Odyssee", bzw. aus anderen Sagen der Antike werden wörtlich genommen, mit einer recht originellen Erklärung. Das Ganze startet, als im grönländischen Eis eine arabische "Dhow" (ein Segelschiff der Spätantike) gefunden wird, die eine recht merkwürdige Fracht an Bord hat. Diese "Fracht" erwacht durch Zufall zu einem Scheinleben und setzt den Mitgliedern der Expedition arg zu. Damit nicht genug, trifft auch noch ein schwerbewaffnetes Sonderkommando ein , das die Überlebenden gefangennimmt und an einen unbekannten Ort verfrachtet. Das Ganze wird noch brisanter, als sich herausstellt, dass auch die Tochter eines US-Senators zu den Entführten gehört. SIGMA wird alarmiert-und startet zum bisher sonderbarsten Einsatz. Antike Mythen, griechische Frühgeschichte, antike Robotik (..) und eine Verschwörung, die um jeden Preis die Apokalypse auslösen will, vermengen sich zu einem sonderbaren Ganzen Marke "Indiana Jones trifft auf Transformers". Und ganz im Sinne der Letzteren geht auch vieles in die Brüche, bevor der Roman endet. Würde es der Autor nicht so meisterhaft verstehen, den Leser bei Laune zu halten, wären drei Punkte die Höchstzahl für dieses Machwerk gewesen, so aber kommt noch einer hinzu. Wer weiß, vielleicht war an der Antike doch so einiges anders als gedacht... Wie auch immer: eine SIGMA-Pause täte James Rollins gut, alternativ könnte er sich ja an Fantasy-Romanen mit antiken Themen versuchen...

How Sigma Force is NOT a long running film franchise like mission impossible I have no idea!! The non stop, heart pounding action never lets up while being constructed around a cast of diverse and interesting characters, blended with a mix of modern technology and acient myth! A powerful, thought provoking story telling style has you asking yourself if this could truly have happened. A must for all adventure loving readers who enjoy unputdownable tales of derring do and world saving antics. Another thoroughly enjoyable romp for the imagination that always culminates in a satisfying victory for the good guys. Highly recommendable!!!

James Rollins does not disappoint! Breathless chases, miraculous escapes and discoveries, hair raising confrontations and Hell- as scary as it could be. Rollins presents us the Greek mythology in a way no one has ever imagined it. Also, prepare for heartbreaking news...

Have been waiting for the newest Sigma book to be released. And once again James Rollins does not let me down, full of suspense as usual.
