But I was curious if it’s normal to have no seal under the lid?** A: Mine came without a seal, but it was clearly used (had debris in it, including a small screw-on bottle cap). **Q: How often do you have to use this? Daily? Or with weekly water changes?** A: The intended affect of a buffer is to "set" the pH. Once it's added, you shouldn't have to add it again for weeks, unless you do a water change. So, if you measure the your pH, and it's starting to drift from 7.5, or you do a water change, it's time to add the buffer again. I have goldfish. So I do weekly 75% water changes. I add my buffer as I'm refilling the tank. If you do smaller water changes, you may want to dose for the volume of water you're replacing, not the entire tank volume. **Q: Does this kill plants** A: It did not kill my plants. I have both live plants and artificial in my tropical tank. I use the Proper pH 7.5 to help maintain the pH for that tank. It stays around 6.8 with this. I use the Proper pH 8.2 in my goldfish tank to help keep that pH at about 7.2. the proper pH 7.5 was not strong enough to maintain my goldfish tank. I have lots of live plants in that tank as well. My plants are fine. Just watch the pH. This didn't seem to hold as well. My water is naturally acidic well water. I also have to boost it up with Alkaline Regulator to get the right targets, depending on which tank mates.
