This new edition of Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem may be the most important resource you can own for helping you understand Scripture and grow as a Christian. The most widely used resource of the last 30 years in its area with over 1 million copies sold, Systematic Theology by Wayne Grudem has been thoroughly revised and expanded (all 57 chapters) for the first time while retaining the features that have made it the standard in its field: clear explanations, an emphasis on each doctrine's scriptural basis, and practical applications to daily life. Praise for the second edition: "After a quarter century of remarkable usefulness globally . . . it remains remarkable. I thank God for this precious gift to Christ's people worldwide." - John Piper "Stands out for its clarity and accessibility." - Thomas R. Schreiner "One of those rare works that can challenge the scholar and instruct the beginner . . . It is simply indispensable." - Jack Deere With nearly 250 pages of new content and revisions that took several years, this new edition now includes the following distinctive features, making it even better: Updated, fuller analysis of several recent controversies within evangelicalism, including the eternal relationship between the Father and the Son in the Trinity, the question of God's atemporal eternity, the role of women in the church, "seeker-sensitive" churches, miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit, and contemporary worship music. New, thoughtful critiques of open theism, the "new perspective on Paul," Molinism (or "middle knowledge"), "Free Grace" theology, and the preterist view of Christ's second coming Completely revised, stronger chapter on the clarity of Scripture Completely revised, stronger chapter on creation and evolution, including a longer critique of theistic evolution and an extensive discussion on the age of the earth New discussion of how biblical inerrancy applies to some specific "problem verses" in the Gospels Additional material respectfully explaining evangelical Protestant differences with Roman Catholicism (with extensive interaction with the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church), Protestant liberalism, and Mormonism Completely updated bibliographies All Scripture quotations updated from RSV to ESV An explanation of why monogenes in John 3:16 and elsewhere should be translated as "only begotten" rather than merely "only" (this is a change from the first edition) A contemporary worship song added at the end of each chapter (while retaining the traditional hymns as well) New discussion on the impassibility of God An extensive discussion on the eternal submission of the Son to the Father, taking into account controversies in recent years Updated section on contemporary worship music A discussion of recent criticisms of the penal substitutionary view of the atonement Numerous other updates and corrections that have be prompted by letters and emails from people around the world and by interaction with the students Wayne has taught over the last 26 years both at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and at Phoenix Seminary Part of the brilliance of Systematic Theology over the years has been its simplicity and ease of use. Each chapter follows the same structure. First, there is discussion of the doctrine being considered, such as justification or the Trinity or the deity of Christ. An explanation of that doctrine's biblical support and possible objections follow. Personal application and key terms to know for personal growth are then provided. Chapters also include a Scripture memory passage, references to other literature on the topic, and suggested hymns and worship songs. If you are someone who thinks theology is hard to understand or boring, then this new edition of Systematic Theology will likely change your mind. Review: Just a regular person - This book is awesome . I am a semi mature Christian with no professional training in anything. I’ve been in and out of the church all my life and read my bible a few times with a thirst for more understanding and a desire to learn either more depth and this book is very easy to follow and clearly outlines its biblical backing. I even shared it with my new husband who is a baby Christian and he too was able to easily follow the text with clear understandin. Yo those on the fence I encourage you to pick this one up. The work book that goes with it is a very thorough compliment to the study as well. Review: A Comprehensive and Accessible Theology Resource - A Comprehensive and Accessible Theology Resource Wayne Grudem’s Systematic Theology (2nd edition) is a masterful work that continues to serve as one of the most accessible yet thorough systematic theologies available today. Grudem, an excellent scholar and theologian, presents deep theological concepts in a clear, engaging, and biblically grounded manner, making this book invaluable for pastors, students, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Christian doctrine. Clarity and Depth in Theology One of Grudem’s greatest strengths is his ability to explain complex theological ideas in a way that is both intellectually rigorous and easy to grasp. Each chapter follows a structured approach—beginning with scripture, addressing key doctrines, and offering practical applications—making the book highly effective for both individual study and teaching settings. Doctrinally Sound and Biblically Rooted Grudem’s theology is deeply rooted in Scripture, reflecting his commitment to biblical authority. He carefully examines major doctrines such as the Trinity, salvation, the atonement, and eschatology, presenting well-reasoned arguments supported by extensive biblical references. His Reformed evangelical perspective is evident, yet he engages with differing theological viewpoints with fairness and scholarly integrity. What’s New in the 2nd Edition? The updated edition includes revised content reflecting further theological study and engagement with contemporary issues. Grudem has refined his discussions on several key topics while maintaining the clarity and depth that made the first edition so widely respected. Final Thoughts As someone whose father attended seminary with Wayne Grudem, I can confidently say his reputation as an outstanding scholar is well-earned. Systematic Theology (2nd Edition) remains one of the most influential theological resources available, providing both academic depth and practical application. Whether you’re a seminary student, pastor, or layperson eager to grow in your faith, this book is a must-have for your theological library.

A Standard for the study of systematic theology, updated and improved.
Wayne Grudem’s newest edition of “Systematic Theology” has enlarged and improved on what was considered the standard on this important field of knowledge covering the basis for belief in God’s relationship with mankind. Dr. Grudem has also updated all scripture references to the English Standard Version of the Bible. It is easy to read, to understand, and to use as a reference source for the serious student of the foundation for Evangelical Christian beliefs.

An Engaging Systematic Theology book
This is very readable for laymen . I even learn from the footnotes. My friend and I are taking a chapter or two at a time. There are good resources at the end of each chapter, including discussion questions and related song texts of a traditional and a contemporary song. I’m really glad I happened to see this book laying on a desk at the church and then found it for sale at a good price.

Well regarded for a reason
There’s a reason why this systematic theology text is so widely used. It is instructive, yet still very readable, and well cited. Granted, I disagree with Grudem’s position on some matters, but this is a great work overall. I also recommend Adam Harwood’s systematic theology.

A life-changing book that deepens your faith and understanding
I absolutely love this book. I’ve read a lot of Christian books over the years, but Systematic Theology stands out in a whole different way. It’s deep, thoughtful, and packed with truth, yet still written in a way that’s easy to follow if you’re genuinely hungry to learn. What I appreciate most is how it connects biblical doctrine with real life. It doesn’t just explain what Christians believe — it helps you understand why we believe it, and how those truths affect how we live, pray, and view God. I’ve found myself underlining so many passages and going back to reread sections because they hit differently each time. It’s also been helping me grow spiritually. The way it explains God’s nature, salvation, grace, and the Holy Spirit has honestly made my personal time with the Lord more meaningful. It’s not just an academic book — it’s devotional in its own way. I won’t lie, it’s a big book — but totally worth taking your time with. Even reading a section or two a day can really stretch your understanding and strengthen your foundation in the Word. If you’re serious about growing in your faith and want a book that both teaches and inspires, I can’t recommend Systematic Theology enough. It’s one of those rare books that changes not just how you think, but how you live. ✅ Pros: Deep yet understandable, biblically solid, spiritually enriching ⚠️ Cons: It’s a lot to take in — but that’s a good thing Final thought: This isn’t just a theology textbook — it’s a faith-building journey. I’m so glad I bought it!

Deep but informative
I haven’t had time to read this in its entirety, but what I have read is loaded with information. This book contains a lot of information and it can get pretty deep, but it is still understandable.

Promueve la humildad, la obediencia y la comunión con Dios
Muy claro. Me gusta que el autor no es muy "cuadrado". Da la impresión de que si le importa Dios no solo "las letras" e intenta promover la comunión con Dios.

Awesome
Great book and full of so much information. It’s going to keep me busy for awhile. I’ve only skimmed the pages as I’m finishing another book but I can’t wait to start this one.

Not a new book
This book is dirty both on the top and bottom ends! I have to use a rubber eraser to clean the marks might have been done by insects and poor storage! The pages in the middle were creased and I have to put several heavy books on top hoping that they will become flat again! Unfortunately, I have to read it next week! 😔
