Good Idea, Poor Execution
The idea of a manual suction pump is good but the execution is poor. The suction pump has 2 settings; adults and kids. It also comes with 2 tubes; one with wider opening than the other. The kid setting limits how far the handle on the suction pump can be pressed back so it creates much less (almost none) suction power. As for its function, if an entire seal at the tip of the tube is created when suctioning, then you may see some suction created, otherwise it does not do much of anything at all. And in order to create any measurable suction at all, you would have to keep pumping fast (pressing and releasing the movable arm of the suction pump unit) to sustain the suction, which is not easy, especially if the operator is an elderly individual. I recommend not wasting your money on this product and getting an electric powered one where the suction is real, more powerful, and is generated a lot faster without suffering from operator fatigue.

Throat suction device
I purchased this item to remove excess mucus from my throat, the result of surgery from throat cancer. It would pick up a little bit but never met my expectations as a thorough device. Perhaps the EMT's toward whom this is marketed have better success.

I bought this for use in a training and testing environment and it barely meets my needs for that use. When I gave it to a student to test his suctioning skill, we had to stop the scenario for several minutes while we both played with the device until we could get it to work properly. I would be very hesitant to use this product in the field. It is cheaply made, the parts do not go together and seal well and it must be kept vertical in order for the overflow valve at the top of the jar to stay open so that you can draw suction. My view is that if you were using it in an emergency, there is a 50-50 shot as to whether it would work without fussing with it. I want products of this sort to be bulletproof. For field use, I will try something different.

It took a minute to adjust to but then it worked really great. It was just the right size I needed for the airline travel I was doing and it didn't take up much room at all . I only wish it came with it's own carry/storage pouch.

Junk! Save your money.
This item fails to function in a satisfactory manner. If you are buying it for any kind of emergency use - save your money. You and your patient will be disappointed. In an effort to return the item seller wants 15% restocking fee and then uses OSHA standards to reject the return as it has been opened and tested (on tap water), thus claiming contamination. The device effectively fails to suction tap water from a water glass - that makes it defective - not contaminated. Any good emergency services provider will test equipment prior to putting it into service. If you do that with this device - you can not return it. Lesson learned!

Manual Suction Pump
I really like it for a hand suction pump. It worked well. If you need something portable it will do the job.
