British mysteries are the best, but Agatha Christie's mysteries are my favorite
British mysteries are the best, but Agatha Christie's mysteries are my favorite. They are best when not tampered with or changed too much, or God forbid, updated for the times. In the 1980's they somehow chose the very best to play Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. The stories never wavered much from the books, and I have read every one several times, and Joan Hickson was spot on; she was the very best Miss Marple, without doubt. Every story in this collection is perfect, the characters are right on target, the era is perfect and should never be changed as they recently did with Tommy and Tuppence. If only they would do the rest of her stories with such perfection in era, and casting as they did with Miss Marple and Mr. Hercule Poirot. I would love to see Tommy & Tuppence stories just as they are in the books, same era, and terrific casting. They did well back in the 80s with Partners in Crime, but blew it with the new set they tried to pass off. Anyway, to any one who loves Christie and Miss Marple you will be pleased with this collection and the remastering is terrific. Well worth every penny. Feb. 2019 update. I have the set before being remastered and it was great, but have to admit this one puts the icing on the delicious cake. It is a fine job of remastering, colors crisper and altogether very much improved visually. Of course, there cannot be an improvement over Joan Hickson as Miss Marple, she was the best and captured Miss Marple to perfection, it is if she came directly out of Ms. Christie's imagination, her clothes and her personality, as are the stories in this set, follows the storyline and era without deviation. You can't go wrong if you love Agatha Christie and her mystery solving Miss Marple, and this improvement well worth the investment.

Wonderful!
This is a delightful series. The stories are interesting and the scenery is magnificent. I binge watched these during a few days of icky weather and it was hard to leave the beautiful English countryside to return to everyday life. That’s why I like to buy DVDs like this. I can return to the beautiful places any time I want. The set was in excellent condition and the video quality was superb. I’m really glad I ordered this set.

Good Buy
I prefer Dame Rutherford in the lead, but this actress did a good job. Quality production.

The Best Version of Marple
Forget Rutherford, McEwan, McKenzie, Hayes, or even the great Angela Lansbury: much like David Suchet is the definitive Poirot, Joan Hickson is the definitive Marple. Although there are a few differences from the books, the adaptions in this set are closer to Christie's novels than some of the more recent adaptions. But to some, they may seem slower paced than most tv shows today. Among some of the best in this set are: Murder is Announced, The Moving Finger, Nemesis, and The Mirror Crack'd. If you are a fan of the Marple books, then look no further, this is the dvd set you want. Enjoy!

Remastered Miss Marple
I have the old A&E DVDs and I love them but these new remastered BBC DVDs are so superior it is like watching them for the first time. I watched all of them to make sure they were quality and they are perfect 👍 They were reasonably priced and I would recommend this seller and this set.

Very well done, but...
There have been several attempts to put Miss Marple on the screen, both big and small. To me this one is the besst -- and that because the Miss Marple character is so brilliantly realized, and all the production values are very high. But... Yes, but. (Well, at least for me.) For despite the uniformity of the excellence I just described some stories still fail to hold my interest and become tediously long. The "some", I have realized, comes down to this: Are the people the story revolves around themselves of interest. Do I actually care about them? In many, again, for me at least, the answer is no. They are just there to advance the plot. Two- dimensional. Of no interest in and of themselves at all. And for me at least the "problem" at the heart of the story -- the "mystery" -- then becomes just a mental exercise, and not one of any consequence. OTOH, the disc mastering is noteworthy. Upscaled onto my large system it looks amazingly good considering its age and source. If one is truly "into" Christie's then this set likely would be found a winner. For me its at best a mixed bag. A few that truly grabbed my interest. A larger number that simply did not.

I am very happy with my purchase, the product was exactly as advertised, and it arrived four weeks earlier than the estimated delivery date. There are no subtitles as has been reported by others, and I am enjoying watching my favourite Miss Marple again.

I'm giving this 5* mainly on a value for money basis - at less than £1 per episode, what's not to like! However, there are a few snags. The 6 discs are simply stacked on a single spindle and proved quite difficult to get out - have fixed this by rehousing them in Tesco jewel cases. The episodes are not in the same running order as the "first broadcast" dates. Dutch subtitles are fixed on 3 episodes (as covered by other reviewers) and the switchable ones didn't respond to my Panasonic BluRay player's remote but could be switched off by the remote from my old Panasonic VHS/DVD combo! They were also switchable on my PC. On my set, only "play all" would start the disc playing and if wanting to see just the second episode had to skip through or fast wind to end of the first episode. Actual film/sound quality is fair but obviously not HD! Very speedy delivery.
