If you find your vacuum cleaner frequently has a broken drive belt, it's likely due to a bent or misshapen brush roller. Remove the old one, rotate it by hand, if there is any resistance at any point in it's rotation, chances are it is overheating and breaking the drive belt. Most would simply replace the vacuum, but a new brush roller for a modest amount and a new drive belt fixes the problem. Since electric motors last a long time, chances are this simple fix will provide you with many more years of happy vacuuming, cheaply.
