How thick does the wheel need to be to work with this? I bought a dewalt diamond wheel and it didnt touch the floor surface

No manufacturer will tell you to do this but you can shim the cup wheel using washers that have 5/8" holes. As the cup wheel wears down you can remove washers to keep the shroud brushes in proper contact. Can also do this with 22.23mm (7/8") arbor hole wheels (just flip the flange nut to use it to center the cup wheel). I got some handy flange nuts from King Arthur Tools that help to build up the proper height while ensuring the cup wheel stays centered on the shaft (critical or immediate regret).
