Does what I need it to and probably for years to come
Works great, comes with all the wiring and mounting accessories for various IDE drives to be used in a dock. I have no complaints. Excellent build quality and have worked in a few scenarios outside of a docking station. Good product that works, does not break the bank, and has cross function besides a docking station drive adapter.

Super useful, works great! User tip inside!
I have a box full of IDE hard drives that goes back 15 years. I think there's a 240 MB drive in that box. I bought this IDE to SATA adapter so I could use my SATA USB dock with these drives to off-load the data before I throw them out. I didn't want to buy a brand new IDE USB dock so I got this adapter. Basically, you attach the IDE drive with a data cable and power cable (included), screw in two small screws on the back and now you've converted your IDE drive to a SATA drive. Then you can put the entire drive into your USB doc. Tip: Since the power cable and IDE cable between this adapter and the IDE drive is flexible, you MUST screw in two tiny screws on the back of the adapter to the hard drive to keep everything together. These two screws are tiny and require a small screwdriver set to attach. This is fine if you are going to do one or two drives, but in my case, I am transferring 20+ drives. I found two old computer case thumb screws that look like this: Solid Brass CPU Case Thumbscrews, 6 Pack and use them to attach this adapter to the drive much faster. No tiny screws, no need for a screwdriver. Fast and easy. Thanks to StarTech for continuing to make useful if not esoteric products like this.

These were a great edition to my hard drive tool kit
Works like it should and for the operational part, I have no issues. I bought two for a direct clone ability. I have seen a lot of complaining about having to put the "little screws" in and so forth. It takes seconds and if this is the main killer of the deal for you, get a converter cable and fish it down in the and it will do the same. The wiring is tight but very manageable if you just guide it to the correct spot when sliding the drive down into the adapter. Press your finger forward into the IDE cable to allow it to fold forward and then gently press the power cable to the left as you push the rest of the way down. Look at the space you have and simply fill it with the cables provided. FYI - When you are used to cloning SATA drives, there is some shock value at the time it takes to now clone IDE instead. It has been years since anyone really uses IDE as a standard and I cloned a 1.87gb partition. Buy a good book, maybe play some video games.....get some extra work done, whatever; this is not getting done anytime soon but it DOES get that drive cloned. ****extra**** I am using this device in a Startech USB 3.0 cloner. This thing has saved me quite a few times and i see people using this adapter as a connection converter, many people are not even using a cloner and are just interfacing directly to the pc for access. There is absolutely no need to buy this if you just want a connection to the pc. If you plan on just laying it on the desk for a while to access files and maybe clone through software, just buy the converter as a cable. Easier to store, easier to hook the drive up, just easier everything. These were a great edition to my hard drive tool kit

A durable product that does a job well done
Recently I picked up the StarTech.com 4 Bay Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5/3.5 HDD after I upgraded from a 4 bay Mac Pro to a Macbook Pro. I wanted to maintain using my SATA drives I pulled from the Mac Pro and realized I still had several IDE drives I had collected from older Windows Based Computers. Insert the Startech.com SATA IDE adapter. The docking station already worked exactly I needed it to and this adapter just was an extension of how wonderful these line of products have worked for me. I should of paid more attention to the instructions, though. I thought it was something I simply slipped into the dock itself. Instead I have to manually set up each drive with the adapter. I did not see this fact as I was in a rush and using amazon on a mobile device. Attaching the adaptor only takes a few seconds but it now breaths new life into a large collection of IDE drives that are, on average, about 400GB in size. A reviewer already mentioned that using the small screws on a drive with a screw driver is fine for one or two drives but, when you are doing a large collection, these Solid Brass CPU Case Thumbscrews, 6 Pack are a time saver as well as prevents an incredible amount of frustration. Also, make sure you set up the master/slave settings on your IDE drive. Overall a recommended purchase. It is a durable product that has saved me hundreds of dollars by breathing new life into my older hard drives which I no longer have to replace with SATA drives for the time being.

AWESOME!!! :-)
This is great!!!! It's durable and fits my desktop HDD docking station perfectly. It's easy to assemble as well. I think it was a good buy. In fact, I ordered 2 more just now... One note: (NOT a flaw) This comes with everything you should need to do the job it's intended to do. They even provide screws to mount your HDD to the adapter with. It's difficult to tell which is which, but there are actually 2 each of the tiny screws you use to mount your HDD to the adapter with. (Obviously) the smaller ones are for 2.5" drives and the larger ones are for 3.5" drives. It works GREAT! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. Kudos to the manufacturer for making an AWESOME product!!!

If you have some older IDE hard drives and need to get information, or access them reliably and quickly, then I highly suggest you invest in the Startech.Com SAT2IDEADP device. Pros: - Construction is solid steel and reliable - Device requires no drivers - Connections are simple and secure (if you follow directions) Cons: - This device requires a screw-driver and is not for quickly attaching to IDE drives. - If you have a lot of old drives, this solution will get expensive if you start buying one for each drive. I do not mind swapping the drives, and I am comfortable with the process. This converts my old IDE drives into a sort of cartridge that easily slips into one of the UNIDOCK3U, SATDOCKU3SEF, SATADOCK22UE, SATDOCK22RE, SATADOCKU2 products.

As always this item is of high quality which I have come to expect from Startech.com. I have purchased several cables and silicone hard drive covers from them and they are all top quality, yes you may pay a little more but it's worth it. They really do make the hard to find easy as per their logo ! The device worked straight out of the box, I just connected the relevant cable for my type of drive ( 2 different sorts of cables are provided), plugged it all in, secured it with the screws provided, slotted it in my SATA hard-drive dock and it worked flawlessly . I now have an additional 500 GB hard drive to use. Brilliant item that I would highly recommend. If like me you have some old rescued PC IDE hard drives gathering dust that you can give a new lease of life too.
