Works great and lasts a long time
I own 4 DMT diamond stones. Unfortunately, everyone I have bought before this one has defects. I am happy with this stone though. My extra coarse stone is missing diamond coverage all along the edges and has a big blotch missing in one of the corners. My DMT fine stone has extremely bad grit contamination that you can not only feel, but can hear, when sharpening. So, I was happy when I finally got a DMT stone that didn't have grit contamination and has complete diamond coverage including along the edges. It is unfortunate that it took 4 stones to get a good one. To say DMT's quality control is subpar is an understatement. I kept seeing good reviews and so thought maybe I was getting lemons, just a random bad one. But no. Everyone stone except this one had significant defects. That being said.... even with the defects the stones work well enough and will last. I know it's odd to say so much negative and have a 5 star review. That is simply because this stone was exactly what it should have been. No grit contamination, no missing coverage and a great stone. It cuts fast and leaves a uniform scratch patter. It is well built and will last year's making it a great buy for $50. If you can get a DMT diamond stone without any significant defects, then you're getting a good buy. These stones will last for a very long time if you take care of them and can cut any steel type including super steels like s110v or s90v.

Perfect choice for my chisels
This is my third DMT Diamond stone. I made the mistake of purchasing a “bargain brand” of the same description, but I quickly learned that I had made a horrid mistake. DMT really makes great stones…I do lathe work for a living, and I use these to keep my skews razor sharp. It is quick and easy to pause in the middle of a lathe turning (when my chisel is becoming dull), an touch up the edge on this stone with a bit of water. In like 45 seconds, it’s done and my tool is again cutting with smoothness and precision. Yes, these stones do wear out…yes, every time you use it, it loses a bit of “cutting power effectiveness”, as the Diamond bits slowly wear off of the surface. But hey, that’s to be expected, as nothing lasts forever. But I can tell you, these last a long time for my uses, and when they become worn/cumbersome, I just order another one and I’m happy! I find that one of these 8” DMT stones last me almost a full year before I finally admit that it’s time for a new one. Not a bad price for a year’s service, and I literally use it daily.

Works As Advertised - No Flattening Req'd!
This is a good tool for sharpening your chisels, plane irons, etc. It is durable, well made and as flat as advertised. I thought it was supposed to come with plastic, anti-skid feet. Mine didn't so I put some stick-on foam rubber pads and they work nicely. It is low profile so you might want to elevate it an inch or so to avoid dragging a chisel handle on your bench when you abrade the burr off of the back. You'll need to use a lubricant in order to help your edge tool move smoothly and carry away the abraded metal particles. DMT sells a solution to do this. I'm sure it works great and it is probably safe. However, I use vegetable oil. After use I wipe the plate clean with a paper towel to prevent oily grime build up. I suppose you can use a spritz of water but that will make the steel rust. This is not the first DMT product I have owned. The quality is reflected in DMT's prices but they are not outrageously expensive.

Coarse DMT
I have had a chance to use this a few times and think that overall it is a good product. This item is listed as being 45micron grit which upon touching it feels like my 1000 grit whetstone. It does what it is supposed to do and is very flat. The advantage this product has over my Japanese whetstone is that it doesn't need to be leveled. The disadvantage is that with vigorous grinding and sharpening of your knife, the metal sediment collects and I feel that it decreases the cutting ability of this item. Consequently, I end up having to frequently wash the sediment off before going back to sharpening. Over all, it does what it's supposed to do which is sharpen my knife. If you don't like the hassle of doing whetstone maintenance, then get the DMT products. They are good products, but I still feel that my Japanese whetstones give me more results for my efforts. I will still use my DMT for leveling my whetstones when I'm done using them though.

Woodshop and household items
Great sharpening block. Originally purchased to flatten my high-grit stones, but have also used this to do some woodworking tool sharpening (Irwin chisels) & other household items (putty knives, hatchet). Very pleased w/ results. It's a bit rough for fine woodworking tools, but fine for my carpentry chisels (knowing they may accidentally hit a nail head when used). Great for hatchet/axe, putty knives, and other household items. When the time comes to replace my water stones, I'll probably go to the finest grit diamond stone - I expect this will give me the sharpness I desire in my fine woodworking chisels & planes.

love these stones
These DMT 8 inch continuous diamond plates are fantastic. 8x3 inches and 1/3 of an inch thick, these are seriously heavy duty. I bought the coarse, fine, extra fine, and extra extra fine 8x3's they will remain flat, they sharpen fast they are low maintenance (only need rinse and dry or occasional brushing) the available grits meet any almost any concievable need under normal use will last forever I bought them primarily to sharpen my kitchen knives and a few tools in the garage. My current knife set is some older chinese made no name set. i have a couple of extra knives like a lower level JA Henckle Santouku and utility knife, a large kithcen aid xhef's knife, and a ja henckle pro 6 in chef. This set of sharpening stones very quickly and easily put an awesomey scary sharp edge on all of them, even though some were previously neglected or sharpend with cheap gimicky sharpeners. dont be scared of them being to aggressive. you only need pay attention to what your doing, dont apply a lot of pressure, and using the xtra fine and extra extra fine really polish the edge very well.

Disappointed with Quality and Accuracy of Description
I was really hoping for a high-quality sharpening stone, especially at this price point. Unfortunately, what I received was a huge letdown. I ordered the 325 grit diamond stone, but the entire working surface is covered with large, rough inclusions. They’re embedded so firmly that they don’t come off even when scratched with a fingernail — some are just massive. These inclusions completely ruin the sharpening experience and make the surface unusable for any kind of precision work. Here’s part of the product description: “Diamond Whetstone Knife Sharpener: Assured not to hollow or groove, our precisely engineered knife sharpeners ensure consistent, even sharpening every time...” This is simply not true. The surface is uneven and unpredictable. Instead of sharpening evenly, it’s more like dragging your knife across gravel. Pros: • Might be useful for sharpening an old, rusty axe — if you’re feeling adventurous. Cons: • Extremely poor surface quality • Misleading product description • Not suitable for fine or even medium sharpening Final verdict: This could have been a decent stone, but the execution is terrible. If you’re okay with throwing $50 away — go for it. Otherwise, steer clear.

Excellent quality sharpening tool
These are great sharpening stones. Although not really a stone, in my usage they are better. I find the stone to be flat with consistent grit throughout. The coarse grit is a good starting point for many applications but you still need the fine and extra fine as well as a leather strop to do it right.

Fantastic tool. Extremely durable. Simple to maintain.
Very good quality sharpening solution. I use it to sharpen plane irons and chisels and I've not seen the slightest sign of fatigue after several months of use. Guaranteed flatness, and no need for lapping... ever. To use, all that is needed is a small amount of liquid to lubricate (the manufacturer recommends water -- glass cleaner is another option with no adverse effects), then sharpen, then wipe off the slurry (the swarf is sign that it's working). The plate is quite heavy, but it helps keeping everything in place while sharpening. Let it dry and store it away. easy. I've found I can obtain results faster by applying very little pressure -- no need to force weight down into the stone to sharpen. There is a small break-in period, after which I started getting bluish halos (photo attached). It's a tell-sign cleaning is due, which can be done easily by a good scrubbing with a toothbrush and some kitchen/sink cleansing powder agent (such as calcium carbonate and sodium carbonate). The surface can also reportedly be cleaned with a high-polymer eraser. Even easier! Very responsive support from the manufacturer. Very satisfied customer! The prices for the coarse, fine, and extra-fine stones fluctuate somewhat, I'd recommend setting a watch.

Recomendo.

DMT - Was sonst!
