Review: A really nice meter for the money! Only a few glitches. - I expected this meter to be worse than it is (but still good enough) based on the reviews here. And it's not perfect. But it's really excellent value for money spent. Given that Amprobe and Fluke are both divisions of the same company, I expected a professional and safe design, and I'm not dissapointed. Both thermocouples read exactly the same on my sample. All readings are pretty much right on the money, very good for a meter without "computerized calibration" (most Flukes are "computer compensated calibration" and that's why they are so accurate). The continuity checker is ALMOST instantaneous. But it you bounce the leads off each other superfast, no beep. Too bad, cause the ability to flail around in a bunch of stripped wires to find the one you want is nice. You'll need to slow down. Capacitance readings are slow (but that really is seldom a problem). Autoranging is slow, especially on ohms. But the readings are very accurate once they settle. You will need to wait a little for a stable reading. But the Fluke is 4X the price. It also likes to beep a lot, and it is apparent that the beeper circuit is a self-oscillating one, with a transistor a bit deficient on gain, so it comes up slowly. So they make the keyboard beeps a bit on the long side to compensate. Enh. Do they even need the beeps? There can be some arguments there, this is sold as an industrial meter so I guess they DO need them. Bit annoying at home tho. Oh and for the EEVblog types, the battery compartment has a machine screw, tho the rest of the case has selftapping plastic thread screws. If you are the sort who blows fuses? The process for replacement is a bit of a pain. Try to NOT blow the fuses, right. The knob has a good snappy feel without needing too much effort. The light stays on a long time. You can adjust ranges on the table. The leg is so so but the rubber tips, very nice. Once again just about the best $100 meter I've ever seen.
Review: Now I remember why I only used Amprobe for the first 20 years of my career! - The first meter I ever owned was an Amprobe RS-3 analog clamp meter with ac amps ohms and voltage. Through the year years as my skills grew I continued to upgrade to amprobe multimeters. Then I got my first Fluke 87, but really the best meter made. It recently grew legs and sought greener pastures. Due to health issues I didn't think I'd be needing another meter. Well I was wrong and needed a new meter. After copious amount of internet shopping I came across the AM 570 that did everything I could ask for in a meter with quite good specs. After reading about many meters I remembered that I never had a problem with any Amprobe I ever owned. They might of missed a feature or two but nothing an upgrade didn't handle. I wasn't expecting the feel of a Fluke for a third of the price, but the functions were all I needed plus a few nic extras. When I received the meter I cracked the case to check the build quality and was pleasantly surprised how well built this meter was! Excellent safety features, clean design very solid construction, just one minor complaint, the dirt cheap battery. After reassembly the meter had ad a great solid feel, quality selector and button feel. Built to last!. I spent a few hours checking every function with nary a glitch. Fast display response (after I switched into some better leads) every function worked as expected. The display is great with very wide viewing angle except when viewing from the top of the case, an exceptional backlight over all 95%. I had planned on using this till Fluke was was back in my budget but I'm getting the feeling this meter will be with me a long time. After owning this meter a few weeks I have found some issues. 1. The Min-Max function barely functions. It requires a button press to display any of the values and doesn't keep the true max which resets with any button press. The fuction claims 1ms capture but should be more like a 1 second capture. Most fuctions are slow to react, this meter is slow. If you need to capture an event like a relay or switch closure good luck. Overall I'm pretty disapointed with this purchase. It took a few weeks to discover all the issues but I'm going to replace this meter as soon as possible with the following B&K Precision 2712 True RMS AC + DC Tool Kit Digital Multimeter

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I need to measure 4 to 20 milliamps with reasonable accuracy. Will this meter handle that?**
A: No. This meter is not a process meter. Process meters have an accuracy of about 0.2% for the 20mA range, this one is 1.5%. There are a few more detailed reasons, but to do any sort of instrument work you need a process meter like a Fluke 789 or an Extech PRC.

**Q: How does the continuity test work for the AM-570? Does it beep pretty quickly or do you have to wait multiple seconds?**
A: I had it fail to read continuity twice, rendering it not trustworthy, and the beep is fairly delayed. It is certainly not as fast as a Fluke 115/117. I returned mine.

**Q: will this meter measure THD?**
A: No it can not measure total harmonic distortion

**Q: please is it possible to get only the temperature probe ?**
A: Any K type temperature probe will work with this multimeter.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review
*by J***S on December 11, 2017*
