I purchased two of these many years ago and finally started using them again. I wanted one more so I ordered another recently. I use them for pickled eggs and might use them for pickles too. 18 eggs fit easily, I'm going to attempt 24 shortly. The glass is fairly heavy duty and the lid seals well enough you can shake the contents tipping the jar over. I would imagine if you are careful you could ferment items in the jar, remembering to "burp" the contents periodically.

Excellent quality airtight thick glass jars. I love the iconic design, the effectiveness of the product, the ease in which you can replace parts like the seals and metalwork if need be. The vast range of sizes and value for money. They are so robust that I still have the jars from 20 years ago. I just need more! I highly recommend them if you’re ditching for quality, durability, excellent functionality and appearance.
