Color & Learn Easy German Phrases for Kids (Dover Little Activity Books: Language)

This may be meant for children but it's also a cute, easy-to-use traveler's introduction to polite phrases and a basic vocabulary. Pictures identify the words and they are used in very simple sentences at the bottom of the page. It's cleverly designed to teach something of sentence structure and word order without a single grammar lesson. This would be fun for an adult to use before tackling a Berlitz or other phrasebook. It's pocket size. I think it would also be great for its intended audience, making it easy and fun for a child to acquire a basic grasp of another language.

I purchased this book for my grandsons (7 and 10) who were traveling to Germany. They liked the format and found that coloring helped with the visual learning. Would recommend

I like the fact that this book introduced a good number of words and phrases. As other reviewers have noted, the "phonetic" pronunciation on these words is lacking. For a parent trying to supplement something else, Duo Lingo in our case, we can overcome these phonetic shortcomings. My six year old daughter is trying to learn German and likes to color, so this is great for her. Don't use this as your only source of learning German. However I am glad we bought it. The price is right.

This “little” book is wonderful. It has phrases that are good for beginners to learn. Engaging for little kids. My 7 year old immediately starting coloring. It’s a nice hands on addition to our German language curriculum. It’s like taking a pocket German dictionary with you. My only complaint is that it would be nice to have it in a larger size.

Yes, this tiny booklet has 13 mistakes in it. I am a native German speaker and professional translator. My intent was to order the booklet for an Intro to German for elementary school-aged children. Thankfully I just ordered one sample. I contacted the publisher and advised them of the problem. They expected me to give them the details about the mistakes free of charge. I would think that they should take it out of the royalties of the author, get the problems corrected, and meanwhile remove the book. If you are just looking for something for your kids to play with it's probably a good choice, but if it's supposed to be used for teaching I would steer clear. I would have corrected a couple of things by hand, but this book is clearly of the lowest standard.

I love the little Dover books! They are perfect to keep in my purse for when we are on-the-go! This little book is a great coloring book / picture dictionary for German. I don't always love the pronunciation guides, but then it's very difficult to capture that. And for all those reviewers who complain that the book is too small, may I suggest they read the description next time before ordering? It states clearly in the product description what the dimensions are. My young children have never had a problem with these small books. As I said, I love them for their small size and portability! We have dozens of them!

I bought this for my 6th grader the summer before taking a German at school. I feared it would be to young for her, but she loved it. Not sure it helped with her class, but it made her excited about taking German.

I’m going to scan some pages, blow them up and then print off. Then we can see what we are coloring and do it more than once!

My DD loves this book - she's refusing to colour it in so far but enjoys reading the German and English and then practising it on me! It's small so ideal for wee fingers.
