Macbeth (The New Cambridge Shakespeare)

Can’t beat the NCS editions. Quality printing, great footnotes and textural analysis.

The New Cambridge Shakespeare are my go-to for studying and reading Shakespeare. I’m a composer and often analyse his works to musicalise. When preparing an operatic libretto on the Bard’s works I go through several editions to help me out on my work. But the NCS are the ones I find most helpful and complete. There are plenty of notes on the text which are at the bottom of the page (which means you don’t have to flip back and forth) and the different reading of the Quarto and Folio are always clear. If you’re looking for one single edition of Macbeth (or a Shakespeare play in general) don’t look further than NCS.

Exactly what I wanted !

This book has a very clear layout and each page consists of the play as well as key information (such as modern translations and historical meanings) at the bottom of the page. It also has an introduction which has useful information in it which can be used at both GCSE level and A Level. I ordered a second hand copy which came very quickly and was in excellent condition considering it had been preowned.

Maybe I got the only set that is muffled for most of the playing time, but this set of CD's is difficult to hear unless you are right next to it with the volume at full blast. This makes it a poor choice for the classroom or the car. The quality of the production is excellent; the sound just can't be adjusted loudly enough to listen to easily.

One of the best Shakespeare's plays! The information is very useful and helpful to really catch the aim of the play!
