Korg Volca Beats Analog Rythem Machine w/Electribe-style 16-step Sequencer and Real Analog Sounds

The Korg Volca Beats is a fantastic sounding analog drum synth I'm personally eternally in love with the closed & open hats Something about them really cuts through & sparkles even though I generally prefer lofi sounds These are not loft but somehow have that analog grit that a hifi sound can put across in a vintage sense There are some sampled PCM sounds These are usable But the machine REALLY shines with its kick snare closed hat open hat low tom & high tom which are all analog The only thing holding this away from being THE modern equivalent to the Roland TR-808 And sonically it is relevant to that piece of equipment IS that there is no song mode None of the Volcas have such a feature these days It's just bringing up patterns by hand But as long as you can dedicate a performance to bringing up from memory multiple one bar loops You can manually create songs "just fine" ;-)

Very fun especially as a beginner. I hate using just programs on computers and this puts the effects into tactile perspective for me! When I do the programs for this stuff I feel I’ll understand it a lot more now!

This thing can have a BIG sound when you want it to. Crisp instruments and crunchy lo-fi PCM samples for the non-drum sounds. The drums have adjustable parameters. There's motion recording. The touch-keys are very responsive. The knobs are tiny and painful to twiddle too much, but easily replaced with other Korg instrument knobs. 1/8" jacks and only a midi-in are pretty annoying. Be ready with a converter or a 1/4"-1/8". CV sync makes it incorporate nicely with other analog instruments. Thing is small and has an incredible battery life. I like to take it to work and jam on my breaks. Time will fly very quickly if you do this, so work quick. The snare sucks. It's really bad, but it can be a good third tom at least. It was because they forgot to put a capacitor in a certain spot on the PCB and the quality control guy who approved this was probably new and didn't know analog snares were not supposed to sound like they were coming out of an 80s game console. There are resources online on exactly how to fix the snare by soldering the appropriate capacitor onto the appropriate spot on the PCB. It takes 10-20 minutes and a bit of bravery (if you've never soldered before). Once modded, the snare sounds like a proper analog snare and really elevates the instrument to astronomical levels for its price point.

This is a great little drum machine for the price. It sounds wonderful and has amazing versatility for being so small. That said you can read other reviews to see how awesome it is. I wanted to list some things that it doesn't do that you might've hoped it would and some things it does but not as well as you might've hoped. - No swing. All beats are straight up. A selection of rhythms would be too much to ask but I can't help but feel they could've snuck in a knob that controlled a basic swing amount. Stutter is a nice work around to get more complex rythms but not the same thing. - No accent. There is a part level, so you can turn up or down each individual drum, but at the end of the day each snare hit is as loud as every other snare hit. This was almost certainly left off to save space and/or difficulty to control, which is great, but still, can't accent hits. - Snare is not ideal. Its not terrible, but there are three knobs dedicated to it. While the three knobs for the bass allow me to dial in the perfect sounds for each loop, I struggle with the snare controls just to make it okay. Its a lot of space and work for less than great results. On a side note the bass drum is amazing. Well outweighs the sub par snare. Also use clap to beef up the snare. - Only stutter and PCM speed can be controlled by motion control. This isn't a serious issue, and these are the ones I would hope could be controlled, but ya if you though everything was motion control that is not the case. Other than that this has lived up to my hopes, and in many ways exceeded them. Something I didnt know it had was active step, where it will play certain steps right after each other and skip the rest. A nice way to easily mix up the beats on the fly, and also make rhythms is 3/4 or really any time signature. For the price this is a steal. If none of the things I mentioned are deal breakers buy it now.

To be honest it was better than I expected. The analog sound it produces sound beautiful (the kick is amazing), as well as the digital sounds it makes sound really nice (clap specially). Another thing that is very versatile is the automation of some of its sounds: you can produce quite different sounds with merely twisting a knob. One downside is that you can't chain sequences :/ If you see reviews you will find that people complain about the snare. Out of the box this is true: it's not the best snare out there... However, I found that with the correct settings of parameters it can sound nice, as well as using the Stutter feature and automating it, as it gives it more body and color. Also, if you feel brave, there are videos out there showing that you can Modify it to "improve" the snare (adding a capacitor and some other tweaks). You'll need some soldering tools and a precise hand though (haven't tried so far).

Fun little machine. Def worth the price. It takes a headphone output or some larger outputs on the back. I just plug in my headphones with a 3.5 and I just play all times of the day. It takes 6 AA batteries. It is cute. It feels nice. I think it was slightly larger than I thought it would be. I like it and for $110ish, it was worth it and they hold their resale value. I have had a few Korgs.

Yes it has its limitations but you won’t find another piece of electronic music gear this fun at this price. And if you absolutely HATE the snare, and want a MIDI out, you can fix both those issues if you’re industrious. But honestly, neither of those things detract at this price point. Put in the batteries, strap on some decent headphones and GO TO TOWN.

I really wish this had the Flux mode from the Volca Keys. I mean, it sorta makes sense, because if you record something in flux you won't be able to edit it with the step editor, but I would be ok with that. There's basically no way to get off of the hard quantization, and the only way to get triplets is to use 12 of the 16 steps and adjust bpm to make it be the same length as if it were the 16 steps. It is what it is, and what it is is ok. Ok sound. Didn't like the snare at first but it grew on me. Loads of fun to just play with, but less useful than the Volca Keys as a serious tool to make music with.

Once again Korg have come up with a winner. Excellent analog and pcm sounds. Sequencer very similar to the old Electribes. Synchronises perfectly with the other Korg Volcas. Also has midi. Sounds are editable. I especially like the kick drum. Very 808 like. Very reasonably priced and you won't find anything better for the price. A good all rounder.

C'est une boîte à ryhtme analogique avec un très bon son. Elle a la qualité de ses défauts, elle sonne très analogique, donc il ne faut pas en attendre un son très actuel et punchy. Mais pour faire de la Techno ou de l'Electro c'est parfait ! J'ai d'ailleurs acheté le Volca Bass et le Volca Keys que je synchronise ensemble afin de faire des Jam Sessions Techno ou Ambient. Je la recommande vivement !

Es muy divertido. En cuanto al envío hubo un problema y enseguida me enviaron un recambio. El producto es muy guay sobretodo si lo conectas a una mesa de sonido, teclado... etc. Pero te diviertes
