Is the usb power adaptor plug 3.5mm. or a male usb plug to connect it to writer?

Hope this helps. There are two cables supplied in the box, one is a simple USB 3 cable and USB 2 cable to plug in to the computer and the other end plugs into the writer. The second is a powercable with a UK plug at one end and a small circular connector which plugs in to the writer. Dependant on the power output of your USB from computer, this may only require connecting with USB lead, but if required, power cable can be used.

can I use it to play blu ray discs on my imac ?

Yes as long as you've got blu ray software installed like cyberlink which is what I use for movies.

I am currently using my USB C port with this drive, but you should not have any problems with connecting to USB 3 using the connector provided. USB 3.0 and 3.1 allow 5V at 900 mA (4.5W). Certified Hosts and Devices must limit their power delivery and consumption to these "default" power levels.
