Old Fisherman ROASTED EEL 3.5oz (6 Pack)

This seems to come w a little more but they leave the spines in. I like the taste. But the old cans I used to buy have a little self opener and they removed the spines for the most part. On the bright side I am getting extra calcium on the downside some of the spines have stringy parts in them which I'm trying to avoid eating. It's a little gross. This was the lowest cost I could find at the time. If it wasn't the price it was at I would not buy. I can't find eel sold individually unless it's on sushi. So it's tough to make your own eel sushi. This isn't the same type of eel. It's like dry fish texture w a delicious bbq soaked into it. I would buy again, but just know it's more for on top of rice than making sushi. :) the sauce is amazing! Very sweet bbq taste.

It was good, but I’m an experienced tinned seafood eater, so, be advised: you will need an old-school can opener for this. No pull tab. The flavor is slightly sweet, as you would expect eel sauce to be on sushi. There are bones present, but the texture of them is soft. This is not unusual for eel. If that is a turn-off for you, I recommend sticking with other tinned seafood products.

Terrible ! And i love eel! These little tins hold the most awful tasting eel ive ever tasted! The eel is dried out, lslightly spicy and sweet! eels were hard, and sweet, 2 things eels are Not. Dont buy them, i dont think i can send them back.

This was purchased with the arrogant expectation that it was the "same" eel the local sushi places used as the "unagi over nigiri" I so crave but has recently doubled in price. I bought the proper rice, learned to prepare it in the traditional style, got the Unagi sauce, and toasted sesame seeds for topping. However, obviously, somehow, I did not do my homework thoroughly enough to achieve the desired results. The palate feel is of a rough texture in this eel, different from the smooth feel of the sushi places (maybe, roasted vs. broiled?). This one has bones in it (maybe, whole vs. fileted?). This one has a slight sardine-like secondary flavor (maybe different processing?). This one has a very slight hot taste (maybe capsicum vs. no capsicum in the ingredients?). It doesn't totally displease to eat other ways, but it is NOT the unagi I was accustomed, and expected, to be eating over my nigiri. Not bad, but not what I wanted either. Three stars. PS - And, Would someone more knowledgeable tell me the right kind of unagi to buy for what I want to do? Thank you.

I have loved this product for years and this is a great deal and a convenient way to get it. I normally have to go to Asian specialty markets that are not convenient for me to get to. It is great to be able to order this product on Amazon and it arrived in good condition. I would recommend this product to anyone who enjoys eel. It has a slightly different texture/taste compared to fresh eel you'd have on sushi, because it is canned, but not in a bad way, in my opinion. It still very much tastes like unagi with kabayaki sauce and has a great umami flavor. I don't mind the bones at all. They are not sharp and can be easily chewed up and eaten, along with the eel, so I just eat the whole thing, bones and all. Extra calcium. So, to sum it up, great price for 6 cans of eel, fast shipping, product is great, and seller is great.
