20" Box Fan, 3 Settings, Max Cooling Technology, Carry Handle, Black (G20BOX-BLK)

I have for the last 30 years lived on a beach in Florida. Moist sea air plays havoc on your home if you live on the ocean and there are a lot of maintenance things you need to do. (I know, oh boohoo for me, hey everyone has problems). Every year I would buy at least two new Lasco box fans. I have literally been buying this brand and this exact model of fan for at least a decade. I have been able to see that over the years the fans have gotten smaller and thinner, what was once made out of metal is now made out of plastic, The price of the fans of course continues to rise, to a place where they are now more than double what I originally paid when I bought my first one. As a result of cutting corners in order to produce these fans, the quality has become quite poor. I need to circulate air throughout my home even when my central air conditioning is not running, in order to prevent the growth of mold due to the level of humidity in my home by virtue of living on the ocean. These fans were just simply no longer up to the task and I set out to find a new brand. Enters Genesis fans. I received my first genesis fan yesterday to replace a lasco. So, where do I begin? Let's start with aesthetics. This was frankly never a great point for me because the fans are more function rather than a fashion statement. However, that being said, the Lasco fans are quite ugly in appearance to be quite frank. They look like what you would imagine a fan built to sit in a hospital would look like, stark white plastic. Incidentally a white fan does not stay white forever. I found my Genesis fan to be a solid black with a greater eye towards design in terms of the front and back screening. They've chosen a pattern that is aesthetically pleasing. Even the blades of the two fans are different. The Genesis having more of an aerodynamic sleekness, that is seen in its appearance and in terms of (I believe) it's operation. Simply stated the Genesis is a much better looking fan for the same amount of money. Next in terms of functionality. I must say that the Genesis is highly superior. Whereas in the past I would utilize my Lasco fans at the highest setting, I am receiving the same or a greater airflow with the Genesis on the lowest setting. This, in and of itself, is the essence of a review of a box fan, It does a much better job at moving air. I do not find the fan to be louder than previous box fans I have owned. I however may not be the best unbiased judge in this regard as it is white noise which I find pleasant. Overall I would highly recommend this fan, it is reasonably priced (in this day and age) coming in at about a dollar less than the Lasco. I received next day free shipping. It arrives assembled out of the box and is packaged well. It's hot, it's summer, if you need a box fan, I would buy one of these.

The phrase "they don't make 'em like they used to" can be applied to almost all modern electronics and this fan is no exception. I remember a box fan my grandparents had. It was solid steel construction with metal blades and a knob on top that clicked into position with military precision. It moves more air than a jet turbine. If you stick a cucumber in there, it'll slice it clean. It's over 60 years old, covered in rust, but it's still in use at my mom's house. I will probably be passing it down to my children. On the flip-side, I have no delusions that my grandchildren will be enjoying this modern-era plastic fan, but that's not a knock against the manufacturer; it's just a fact of life. Modern manufacturing hasn't had a focus on long-term strength and durability for decades, so people's complaints about this fan being cheap plastic are unfounded. Manufacturing of appliances with light electric motors hit its stride in the 50's and 60's. This isn't changing, deal with it. It's not the fan's fault. With that out of the way, as far as cheap plastic modern box fans go, this is the best I've seen for 5 reasons: 1) Eye-catching design. It really does look more attractive than other fans with its slender blades, choice of color, and clean top surface. 2) Very powerful. This fan's "low" setting is like a medium or high on most fans. This fan's "high" setting should be called "lay fan on floor for skydiving simulation." I've found that on medium this fan moves plenty of air for nearly any situation, but if you really want to kick it up, that high setting is amazing. Others complain of noise, but the noise is appropriate for how much air is moving and how fast the blades are spinning. The motor itself is very quiet and efficient; all the noise is from moving air and slicing blades. No noise means no air moving, people. 3) Front control knob is much more convenient than the usual top knob. Keeps it from getting damaged and it's easier to actuate while the fan is inevitably situated in a window. 4) Back-side handle. No top handle here, you grab the fan from a recessed rear handle to carry it. In nearly every plastic fan I've owned, the top handle and top control knobs are the first thing to break off. They are too exposed up there, and prone to bumping and breaking. I suspect this back grip will last much longer and combined with the aforementioned front control knob, I don't think I'll be replacing this fan just because cheap plastic parts broke off. 5) Adjustable feet. Feet swing out for extra stability, then swing back for storage or tight spaces. Good design. I'm not an engineer, but I suspect the unique slender blade design is what allows this fan to operate at higher speeds and move so much more air on "high" than other fans. Time will tell if this new design will hold up over the years. I'm concerned that slender blades are more prone to breakage. However, as it sits, this is the best box fan I've seen since the golden era of manufacturing. Admittedly, it actually does move more air on "high" than my grandmother's fan for less money than hers probably cost new. (inflation adjusted of course) At the time of this review, this fan cost approximately 5-10 dollars more than competing box fans. I'm confident it was worth the extra money.

If you, like me, require a fan to sleep, this is the fan for you. It moves a LOT of air, and on high it is as loud as a jet engine. That might sound like a negative, but it is NOT. I sleep like a baby with this fan going. Absolutely nothing wakes me up, and I'm a very light sleeper. 10/10 recommend

A little loud, but the white noise can be nice if you have boisy neighbors. The dial falls off sometimes but it snaps back on, works great

This fan is a good powerful fan and I am enjoying it at the very moment. I don’t know why but I love hearing the noise that comes from it. I don’t like quiet fans. The fan helps put me to sleep. This is the second time I purchased a fan from Amazon.

So this is now the THIRD one of these that I have got. The first one didn’t last for that long (3 months maybe), and I reordered it because it’s the loudest box fan I’ve found for my autistic toddler who needs the noise at night to sleep, the second one fell on its back once on a memory foam rug and then wouldn’t work again and I messaged customer service and got nothing back, so after searching more I decided to try it one more time and I completely regret it!! I just received it yesterday and I plugged it in and it sounded like a war because the fan blades are hitting the motor inside! So I took it apart and tried to see if anything was loose or broken and it wasn’t, so I’m now going to call customer service one more time but my honest opinion is to get anything else and don’t waste a penny on this fan (which I believe should be cheaper anyways), until they can make a decent one that works all together and will last! If customer service makes this right and refunds me for all the hassle and sends me another one that works, then, and only then will I update my review! So disappointed!!!

What a powerful and effective fan. I purchased to dry a wet carpet. Exceeded my expectations. Now we use it all the time. Great product

Strong fan! Could be used for very big rooms. Has little feet you have to twist to help it stand. Not quiet, but very effective white noise generator.

First time using and the motor has blown with it not even being on for 2 mins!
