Review: Cool product - I love it! But... One of the two units was missing a 330 ohm chip resistor and so was only passing input voltage through. Luckily I have an assortment of resistors and was able to fix this one. They work great for my application only getting slightly warm to the touch when pushed hard. They are awesomely small for their capability and there were no noticeable harmonics. There was under a mV of ripple seen on my o-scope. And the output voltage is stable under load and even when the input voltage varies considerably. Great product! My project was to power 4, 30 watt class T amplifiers for use in my truck. I am running 2 amplifiers per boost circuit going from 12-14 volts from the vehicle to 19 volts and pulling 2-3 amps from the boosted side.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are the input and output isolated, or do they share a common ground?**
A: XL6009 or LM2577 are not isolated SMPS regulators. Input and output share common ground. They have individual terminals but the negatives on both ends join on the bottom as a single ground plane. This doubles as thermal relief for the IC. No isolation exists on the output end.

**Q: When set to 12volts, is 400khz safe to use to charge a microsoft surface pro 4?**
A: 400khz is the internal oscillator frequency that it uses to do the step-up voltage conversion. The output is rectified to DC before the output. The Surface Pro won't know the difference whether it's 400khz or 60hz. Most laptop power supplies nowadays are switching supplies which use the same technique.

**Q: What size are the mounting holes?**
A: There are two mounting holes. The holes are .139 inches, or 3.53mm.  You can see one of the holes in the upper right side of the picture.    Good Luck on your project!

**Q: Can this be submerged in 2 part clear epoxy to make it water proof?**
A: Ideally not, you better use a waterproof enclosure for electronics. This module requires passive cooling, if you dip it in resin, heat won't be able to escape.

i like them and they work great but not what I expected. I hooked up +12v to the input terminals and the output will not go below the input voltage. They only raise voltage, not lower it.
