Rick James - Rick James: The Definitive Collection - desertcart.com Music Review: An underrated funk genius, gone but not forgotten - It's time Rick got his flowers, not just for Superfreak, but for ALL the tracks here and more not found in this collection. I know the word genius is a word that gets branded around a lot, but what word can I use to describe a singer-songwriter Svengali like Rick James? He created the Mary Jane Girls and brought us Lady Tee...Lady friggin' Tee! In my book Rick was great and he's so underrated. When most people think RJ they stop at "Super Freak" or gloss over the rest of his talents/songs. Not me. I love the whole Rick crew. Wasn't the Mary Jane Girls just great??? I love them! In this collection u get to sample no less than 16 songs from RJ. Savor the melody of "Fire and Desire" [feat. Teena Marie] (They smoked that one. Whew!) or dance to "Give it to me Baby". Great songs abound here. Of course, "Super Freak" is here, as it should be. What makes this set, so thrilling is its breadth. There are hits both big and small and i find the smaller hits are just as good --if not better-- than "Superfreak". There are great tunes here to savor, and all the big hits are here for us fans and music buffs to vibe too. Pay attention to "Give it to Me". That's just a stone groove as well as his 1979 (i think that's the year) smash "Mary Jane". The song has been sampled one too many times to count, so the young ins will probably recognize it too. Of course old school heads already know the deal. This is a classic. All the songs are worth a listen, though some more than others. As the 80's dragged on RJ was seemingly running out of steam and creative ideas, but the CD s over before the songs become truly redundant, so no worries here. 5 stars. Highly recommended Great music to play for: Relaxing with a glass of wine or going out Review: great song selection - step father loved this song selection

Rick James "Definitive Collection"
This has most of your Rick James favorites and then some. Although when you play the CD on any of your electronics the songs don't match to what it shows on the playlist. The CD is pretty good and was glad I got it. If you like funk, disco, dance and or slow songs, then this CD has it all. It's a good buy.

I love this album especially when working-out
This is dance funk. Yes, it was played on the disco floors, but funk is less repetitious and has a dirtier feel than those long, repetitious disco songs. I love this album especially when working-out. It brings high energy and just makes my workouts fun. The only thing I don't like is those unoriginal 80s pieces at the end of the album. I deleted those and it's a better album for it.
