It came as several plastic pieces and needed to be assembled into either a ball (the one you see at the description), a cylinder, a star, and a few other arrangements. It looks great from a far and really adds a dash of modern appeal to any household. The X-Large is a bit smaller than I expected. It's roughly a few inches larger than a basketball (I was hoping that it would have been a bit larger).I also added a Philips Hue light bulb inside and the color changing effect reflected on the white shades is quite beautiful. It adds a dash of complexity and coolness to the piece as well.You can find similar kinds of lamp shades at Ikea, but this is a lot cheaper and in my opinion looks a lot better. The only complaint I have about this puzzle is that the instructions are ludicrous. It's impossible to put this together with the crazy instructions that they provide. The easiest way in my opinion is to Youtube a video online that shows you how you can arrange it.My answers to the frequently asked questions below:How many inches in diameter is this XL light?It's about 21 inches. It's a decent size, but it looks like it's a medium from afar.Can I use it as a main source of light for my room ? what is the maximum wattage for the lamp?Yes. I use it a chandelier for my kitchen. it works great.Can I use this as a shade over an existing table lamp harp?Yes. You would need to assemble the ball, but provide an opening for it to cover the harp.
