Great toy for my 5 year old to tinker with. When it comes to making the suggested models they are a little fiddly for a 5 year old to do alone, also proved a tad tricky for an adult too!!

My 5 year old Nephew is really enjoying this toy needed a little help to put it together but the instructions are easy to follow.

This was a present for my 7-year-old daughter. Instructions are quite good and clear but it was very difficult to assemble. The screwdriver barely fit in the screws (I had to push the screwdriver down onto the screw to force it in) and everything gets loose very quickly. One small bang into something and the wheels fall off. Meccano is supposed to be metal of course but I thought this would be a good introduction for my daughter. To be honest, metal would have been far less frustrating for us both.

Bought this toy for my 5 years old. He's not ready to put it together but we had fun in doing it together. The only downside is that some bolts loosen up after a few run with the car

My five year old maths-inclined son was so excited for me to to build this model with him. I chose it because he loves Lego and had really enjoyed some of the more basic Lego Technic models and because I remember Meccano being so great when I was a child, that I wanted to share that experience with him. I really should have paid attention to the negative reviews. First off, the move to plastic has meant that the model does not stay together and throughout the build you have to be constantly re-tightening the screws. Second, there was a mistake in the build instructions that required us to disassemble and reassemble the model to make it fit. Third, the pullback motor did not work. We found this out after a couple of hours of building, when we tried it out for the first time. My son then had a meltdown because he was so disappointed after having been so excited and having put in a couple of hours work. Finally, when using the car as just a toy car (without using the pullback), the screws became so loose after just rolling the car across the floor once that the parts, including the wheels themselves, were literally falling off the model as it went. I rarely leave negative reviews but this product really upset me. Don't waste your money on this model. I then went on to buy a Lego Technic pull back monster truck and that was a much better experience. That build was quite a lot more complex but the resulting model is fantastic and has stood up to my son racing it, crashing it against walls and driving it down the stairs.

It's a lot of fun to build this with your child but the quality is low so it very easily comes apart if you play with it once it's built. After it's built it should be put on a shelf to look at
