Accessible look into Antarctic Travel and Research
I was surprised that my 3.5 year old made it through this book (we did break it up in two readings). It is long and dense - but the tone is very accessible and it has a little something for everyone. This is a great STEAM book. It covers all the bases and introduces children (and adults) to a world they might never have thought about before.

Fascinating & beautiful adventure story
My boys (3 & 7) love this book! This is the interesting story of the fictional Sophie who travels on her dad's boat to take supplies to the science station in Antarctica. Along the way she encounters icebergs, penguins, blizzards, art and adventures. This book beautifully combines real photos with children's artwork, and illustrator's sketches depicting her expedition to the South Pole. I appreciated the beautiful intertwining of art and science in this unique book.

This was an interesting story that I enjoyed sharing with my daughter
Nine year old Sophie Scott is journeying someplace that few people ever are able to see in person, Antarctica. Her father is the sea captain of the Aurora Australis, which is named after the southern lights that occasionally shine above the South Pole. Along the way she keeps a journal, photographs her experiences, and documents the life-threatening weather challenges that they face. This was an interesting story that I enjoyed sharing with my daughter. It is a bit of a longer read for one session to share with a classroom, or as a group read aloud; independent readers who enjoy learning about science and nature will like it.
