What it seems to be more like, in my experience, is a compact styrofoam. Lightweight? Very. The box seemed nearly empty by weight. Durable? My instincts tell me no. First, it is painted black. The paint does appear to be a suffient thickness in most areas but a little thinner in others such that it almost has a rubbed look, though it didn't appear to be damaged. Most important about the paint is that it causes the components of the foot rest to slip side-to-side very easily during use. Adding a shelf liner or rug grip between the components crossed my mind but for the price paid, I cannot justify a retrofit. On the up side, the product was packaged very carefully so kudos to the seller for that.
