I like the boot to be somewhat larger so I can add a sports insole to give more cushion. I also have a extra wide foot so I purchased the extra wide size. After adding the insole the boots fit fantastic using a standard thickness sock. For me the boot was slightly tight but after break them and it has a great fit. I also own a pair of Dan post Earp and these Anaheim boots fit more comfortably than Earp's. Keep in mind that the photo on Amazon is somewhat lighter than the actual boot color. It has a slightly darker gray look. Which I actually prefer primarily because gray goes with more colors than what would have been if it looked like the boot photo. The leather has an outer rough surface which I like. However, the leather thickness is thinner than my Earp's that may give extra comfort being somewhat thinner leather. I have 11 pair of western style boots, mostly Lucchese boots. This is my first pair of Dan Post boots and I'm impressed. They are not as comfortable as my Texas made Lucchese ropers but have a nice, comfortable fit. I usually break them in with a nice thick pair of boot socks then add a low profile insole / arch support after break in and wear with thinner socks. Read some reviews that their pairs did not have the "distressed" look, and I ordered anyway. Thought it would be a nice gray color either way and I like the stitching on the boot. They arrived and my pair is exactly like the picture. It's like they finished the leather first, then scraped it with some type of wire brush. The color is grayish, looks like they're been worn a long time. My first impression was great opening in the box, each boot was individually wrapped fitted with cardboard and paper to keep the shoes from premature breakage. Trying on the boots, they fit very well and make sure to read how its supposed to fit if you are a first time buyer. The tip of the boot is a little pointy, but that isn't a big deal with the right clothes.
