does this cooler have a drain and does if needed to be tilted for the drain to work?

Yes it does have a drain on the lower rear. It sits slightly lower than the floor, so drains well with out tilting. If need be, it is easily tilted leaning back on the wheels.

How heavy is the empty cooler ?

I would guess 25 lbs, I could lift it and I am 70 years old.

Is there any material difference in the quality of the materials between this one (color blue) and the black one that is more expensive?

Have a solid blue one, seen others in stores, they are all the same, frankly the darker, the worst it would be. Black is black because it’s absorbing the entire visible spectrum, aka equals heat. White reflects all visible light back. So in theory white should be the best, especially in direct sunlight. However we hate white, It shows dirt, didn’t like red, orange, so picked blue top, blue bottom. That white with blue bottom might be good as they don’t usually insulate the tops, just air. Why is black more expensive, most likely the color demand, they sell more of them. If white/dirty looking doesn’t bother you, go with that if offered, or the white top, blue bottom. I would avoid the black.

What is the diameter of the wheels on this cooler? Large wheels roll through the sand at the beach much easier than small wheels.

Theyre pretty much the same wheels you'll see on most colemans at the stores. I personally think they're too skinny and will sink into the sand.
