Rubbermaid Ice Cube Bin, White, Holds 4 Trays, Compact Design, Durable Plastic

We've been having ice wars, the refrigerator ice maker isn't working as well as it used to and I'm done with buying bagged ice. So, I bought good old fashioned ice cube trays and the Rubbermaid bin. This is fantastic - it holds 5 large ice cube trays full of ice - the full size trays, not those small (8 cube trays) but the 16 cube trays! it may even hold more but I have it in the top drawer of my lower freezer and that's all I can finagle in it and I have 4 - 16 cube trays next to it. This Rubbermaid bin is light weight and the plastic material is well made. It's not the cheap plastic that will crack or break, which seems to be what is the norm with stuff nowadays... I can now use as much ice as I want and fill my massive jug with ice and water to my hearts content. And this is top quality and made in the USA, I highly recommend it and it's not overpriced.

We have a bottom freezer on fridge, and this sits perfectly on top shelf. Holds large amount of ice and is well made.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: We don’t have an ice maker in our refrigerator. As we get into summer, need more ice! After using a cheap small plastic bowl, I found this. I can only repeat what other reviews have stated - good size, good quality, fit for the job. It is plastic, but seems soundly made and sturdy so far. Recommended! It is the right size for our ice cube trays and, when the trays aren’t cooperating, one can just set them upside down in the ice cube holder and wait for Mr. Gravity to drop them out. (Hint: put a plate or pan lid over it after doing this, then turn the whole thing upside down to let any melted water run out without dumping the cubes.) Finally, this is made in the USA, not China as Amazon states! You can see the Made in USA line on the product label if you enlarge that image enough. A satisfying purchase!

At least one of my four stars is for Made in USA which I really appreciate. This is a serviceable little plastic ice bin, about the right size and shape to fit into most refrigerators and use most ice trays. I'm not crazy about it, primarily because it is not the exact size and shape I want in my particular fridge, so I'm using until I find better. I particularly dislike the tapered bottom. Why is it smaller at the bottom? That's a waste of space since it's still going to take up the footprint of the top part on your shelf. I also find it pretty cheap and unattractive looking. Many many not care in an ice tray, but I do as I'm kind of aeverything-gorgeous-in-my-kitchen kinda girl. But I can't in fairness take off more than one star for it being pedestrian looking so...there you go, objectively four stars for a product that does what it says it will and which looks only a little uglier in person than it's pic. PROS About the right size and shape to hold ice Lightweight. Dishwasher safe CONS No lid to keep out smells. I suppose people who use ice trays put them on top. I have automatic ice but also like to have a bin of ready-made ice available in the freezer. Kind of ugly and cheap looking in design. It looks kind of like anything you might buy at Target. Can I fault it? No. But I don't like it. Tapered at the bottom which seems like a waste of space. Why not make it the same size all the way up and down because otherwise you are just wasting space in your freezer.

While looking for an ice cube bin for my freezer, I found a popular brand of food storage containers was selling a freezer-safe container with removable lids. This item was about $8-9 cheaper than the Rubbermaid ice bin so I went with the cheaper item. Mistake! The cheaper containers both cracked within the first couple weeks of use. I came back and bought the Rubbermaid bin and it has been great. Thick, solid plastic that fits nicely along one wall of my freezer compartment. My only complaint would be that it doesn’t have a lid, but it’s great, otherwise.
