This replaced a $30 drill from ikea that broke before I even had a chance to charge the battery. This is an amazing set with two replaceable batteries and much more powerful drill for just a little bit more! I’ve had it for around 6 months now, and moved into a new apartment and used to attach new handles on kitchen cabinets, swap out multiple light switches and fixtures, put together some flat pack furniture, install shelves in my wardrobe, put up roller shades for my windows and other small projects around the apartment. It’s surprised me how often I’ve actually used it! The light is really useful for illuminating where you’re screwing, and I find it comfortable to hold. I’ve only used for very lightweight tasks (drilling/screwing into drywall, studs, and a couple times metal) but has met every task with ease. The carrying case has quite a lot of extra room. I use it to also store a small set of drill bits, a level, some pencils, and a manual screwdriver- and even with all that extra stuff it everything fits well. My only regret is buying the cheaper ikea drill in the first place and not buying this first off.

We have had this drill for 18 months. While we don't use it frequently, it still impresses me. For such a small unit, the batteries seem to last *much* longer than I'd expect, providing great, continuous power. It's small enough that my wife of many years finds it comfortable, yet still feels good in my larger hands. Neither of us is as strong as we used to be, so this light unit was just right for us. The chuck-less tightening works well and securely. I also appreciate the task light that comes on when you use it. We really love the carry bag it comes in, to keep things together. We keep it in our camper for raising/lowering the stabilizers, as well as chores in the camper. I'm also impressed how infrequently I have to charge it while it stays in the camper between trips for months on end. Yet it always has a charge when we need it.

phenomenal! It’s all you need for around the house projects!!! Picked it up for less than $90 on Prime Day. couldn’t be happier.

I got this to replace (though tbh it didn't need replacing) a little palm-sized Black & Decker screwdriver that had done all my small jobs for many years. Objectively the BD was slow and lacked power, so the Bosch is a great upgrade. It's got a torque setting, a normal chuck (not just a hex) and it is powerful but surprisingly quiet. I just used it to build something which needed 3" screws driven and the Bosch handled it without breaking into a sweat. Having 2 batteries is very handy, no longer have to drop what I'm doing and take a 3 hour break while the thing recharges. ETA: the battery is absolutely stellar. To be fair I use this for tasks around the house, so not super often, but enough that I had wondered when the battery would run out. I bought the thing about 1.5 years ago and up to today I have used one of the batteries without ever having to recharge it. I popped in the second battery (which I had fully charged the same 1.5 years ago) and went right back to work.

I love this little drill. Having owned and used the Makita 18V XLT system for about 14 years, I usually find myself reaching for my old, 20 year old first generation 12V bosch drills because of their light weight. One of them finally died completely, so I picked up a PS31. Even lighter weight with no sacrifice in power. Turns a 1 1/4" spade bit through plywood with no problem. The 2AH battery is acceptable for now, but may eventually upgrade to more capacity, although that would add a little weight. I do miss being able to stand the drill up on its battery, but considering how often I knock them onto the floor, I should probably consider the inability to do so an upgrade! Yes, as a couple of other reviews have mentioned, the battery is a little difficult to remove from the tool, but I don't really mind, and it will probably loosen up with wear. Great Bosch build quality, I fully expect this drill to last 20 years too! I like this tool so much, that I have since purchased the multi-head version too!

I currently have an 18v Dewalt XRP and it is a fantastic drill - super powerful, great battery life and it's about 6 years old. Still works like the day I bought it. I'm a DIYer and have used it regularly. I've recently begun to make furniture and have discovered that I needed a backup or replacement drill that was considerably smaller. I'd like very much to pick up a Festool T12, but I can't afford it. Anyway, on a whim, I bought this Bosch PS31-2A because it was such a great deal. I have a Bosch jigsaw and it's great. I also know of a few people who have other Bosch drills and have not heard complaints. However, I agree with other reviews of this tool: 1. The chuck woobles - at least a 1/16" 2. The chuck itself is slick, it should be either more "rubbery" or not as tapered. 3. Battery life is OK The good points: 1. Compact size 2. Battery indicator level 3. LED light 4. Good soft carrying case 5. Decent power for its size 6. 30 minute charge 7. Glad I didn't pay full price I did a test of my own, I was a bit skeptical about its overall performance for my needs. I took a 2x4 of red oak and some 3" screws and wanted to see what it could handle. I drilled 5 screws without pre-drilling and about 25 with pilot holes through the 2" side before the battery died (I buried them in about 1/8"). The battery was warm and the motor was OK. I took the second battery and drilled about 5 holes at 1/16" thinking that the chuck wobble would cause me trouble by drilling a wider hole. If it did, I couldn't notice. Then I drilled out 25 more holes for screws and screwed them in, also about an 1/8" below the surface. After that I drilled out four 3/8" holes on the 4" side before the battery died. At this point, the battery was warm and the motor was warm too. For my usage, I think the test was rugged enough. Most of my projects will use plywood and 1" to 2" screws. The battery will likely last long enough for the time I have to work that day. If not, the second one will come in handy while I recharge the first. It's definitely going to be easier to take to someone's house to work on repairs or basic installations. Overall, this is a good drill.

Fantastic drill/screwdriver! I want to address some of the negative reviews…. 1. Hard to remove battery. No. Quite simple actually. Squeeze the finger grip spots and slide out. It is firmly planted but I’m a 53 year old woman with small hands and severe arthritis and I can do it just fine. 2. Wobble. It can be a bit finicky about how the bits are secured. If it wobbles then just loosen and reseat it. 3. Reliability. My husband has one at work and loves it enough that we got the exact same one to replace mine at home. 4. Batteries came about 80% charged. Zero issues with reaching full charge. Make sure the battery is fully seated in the charger and that it’s blinking.

I do not typically review something I bought several years ago -- but this battery-powered drill/driver has earned a special place in my opinion about tools... I bought it for the convenience of rebuilding an old tree house. A couple of years later, I used it when framing ~400 SQ FT addition, where I installed thousands of screws and bolts, including hundreds of 4-1/2 inch timber bolts and dozens of 5-inch LedgerLoks. I have a bigger AC drill/driver -- but I never needed it. In fact, this little Bosch machine often fits into places where a bigger machine would never work. Controls are sensible, swapping bits is painless and fast, and the motor spins up and stops with exacting precision. I've dropped it dozens of times -- even 10 feet onto a solid concrete basement floor ...and sometimes used the butt end for an 'emergency' hammer when tapping snug-fitting wood into place ...and it keeps on running. Use it with a 4-inch diameter bit to cut a dryer vent opening? No problem. Work all day with one or two charged batteries? No problem. And in a dark corner of the basement, the drill's LED light often let me finish the job without setting up special lighting. Simply put, it is one of the most useful and reliable power tools I have ever owned, and unless I have a seriously heavy-duty job (like coring through a concrete wall), this is the only drill/drive I will ever likely need.

Name is misleading - Great drill, small and powerful, but the 2A in the "PS31-2A" does not mean 2Ah batteries. I wrongly assumed that I was getting 2Ah batteries. If you read all the fine print here and on the Bosch site, they never mention the size or the part # of the battery in this kit and I believe that it is really part of their marketing plan. The batteries that come with this kit are BAT411 which are only 1.34Ah. If you want the 2Ah battery, the part # for that battery is BAT414. I really can't complain because I got a great drill at great price, but wanted to share my thoughts in case someone else is assuming the same as I did. Update - Confusing ... Home depot have the same PS31-2A on their site which comes with one 2Ah battery and Canadian Tire also has same part number, PS31-2A which comes with two 2Ah batteries. I guess it depends who sells it. Just be aware of which battery you are getting. Update - Dec 2016, I was just cleaning out old boxes and just noticed that the box does indeed have a sticker that shows 2.0 Ah batteries included, so my fault, I should have looked at box more closely and I could have returned the drill before 30 days. Too late now, but just wanna share in case you get the 1.3 Ah batteries like I did. The kit I bought was "USED" here on Amazon and what I can assume is that the person who returned it probably kept the 2.0 ah batteries and returned 1.3 ah batteries from another kit. Since all looked complete and clean, the employees at Amazon never noticed the difference. I can only blame myself for not paying enough attention. Lesson learned! Update - I just contacted Amazon customer service and they solved my problem. Nobody else has the level of customer service that Amazon has.

Ordered the drill from Amazon Prime as recommended by Amazon Australia. It came in a timely manner but is incompatible with Australian 240V power. The Amazon listing on the Australian website does not list its voltage requirements. The charger for the two 12V Lithium Ion batteries only works with 110V. It is not dual voltage. Disappointing. The return postage costs $66 with Australian Post. Amazon only covers $30 as a Prime Member. While it is costing me to return the item in terms of postage and hassle, I am still drillless.
