but is a great guide. Almost a textbook with detailed information presented ...
Not what I was expecting, but is a great guide. Almost a textbook with detailed information presented in an easily understood format. Not for younger readers and I wish the photos were larger.

Better photography, more detailed descriptions
A vast improvement over the previous edition published by Princeton Field Guides. Better photography, more detailed descriptions, including behavior and ecology.

A comprehensive scientific guide to Indian mammals
This does not come across as a guide for the layperson, I really would have liked larger pictures for easier identification of animals, or perhaps illustrations. This being said... there are all of the mammals found in India and some other Asian countries in this guide with descriptions, natural history, etc. It is a thick book and quite heavy. I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to know more about Indian wildlife.

Great book for the mammal enthusiast!
Superb! While illustrated guides tend to be superior, this comprehensive guide includes information on tracks, tracking, scat, and other essential info to the mammal searcher.

Nice book, mine was damaged though
Mine was damaged.. I don't want to return it (waste of transportation, carbon footprint etc.), but still it feels a bit of a waste for a new book. I can't leave this comment anywhere else on amazone... Otherwise the book is good and nice!:)

Don't buy the kindle edition.
Although this looks fine as a paper book, the kindle version, which I bought and then returned, is useless as a field guide because of the difficulty of navigation. The publishers would be well advised to look at other field guides made available on kindle, such as the Guide to the Birds of India, which are easy to navigate and make excellent field guides.
