RS-45 Rotary Cutter

Love this cutter! Easy to lock and open. And I love how the blade engages as you start to cut. Once you stop cutting the blade automatically is protected. The handle is nice and thick. Easy for arthritic hands. Highly recommended!

This is my absolute favorite rotary cutter. It’s good for a left hand or right hand. The best part about it is that it’s never left open. The blade is exposed only when you apply pressure onto your rotary board. I actually own three of these. Highly recommend, particularly for someone who always leaves their rotary cutter open after use.

Love Kai scissors so I thought I'd give these a whirl and yes, love these as well. Great titanium blades and great design.

I wish I’d purchased these a long time ago. I was getting pain in my thumb from repeatedly opening and closing the blade cover on my other rotary cutters. When you’re making a big quilt and cutting for days, that’s a lot of opening and closing the blade cover. I decided to try the Kai rotary cutter as I have their scissors and they’re wonderfully comfortable and sharp. The handle is very nice, it has a wonderful rubbery grip on each side and it’s thick enough to alleviate arthritic pain in my hands. I love the way the blade cover automatically covers up the blade as soon as you stop cutting. This is just so phenomenal that I can’t believe I hadn’t purchased one of these years ago.

I began quilting 25 years ago and have used one Kai cutter all that time. I only purchased another one because I dropped and broke my faithful one. I did look at other brands and almost bought an orange one, but came home from the store and instead, ordered another Kai. I am so glad I did. This one with the rubber bumpers feels great in the hand and gives some traction when pressing down. I love that a little pressure is all that is required to expose the blade. It makes for super fast access and an automatic safety retraction. The simple design, without a loop handle or extra protrusions, will make your cutting life easy. Ones with other fancy features may sound attractive, but don't be put off by the deceptively simple Kai. Here's to another 25 years!

I have the Kai Professional Scissors and love them, so I wanted to see if the rotary cutters were as great. The weight and feel was good, and I liked the ability to choose between a light or heavy cut. I set it for heavy cut, and started cutting through 4 layers of material. What a mess.....my very first use shredded the material, required multiple passes, and lodged material between the blade and the protective covering. I tried it several times before deciding to try in a new blade. With a new blade and the cutter on heavy cut, I tried again. It worked beautifully. I took a closer look at the blade that came with the cutter and saw that my used blades were in better condition than their new blade. Now that it works, I'm hoping the feature of light and heavy cuts will go a long way toward protecting my cutting matt. Time will tell. I gave this four stars because I had to replace their blade, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
