"It was a refreshing, old-fashioned pleasure to read Julie Scott Meisamiโs verse translation of, and introduction and notes to, this twelfth-century Persian allegorical romance." โOrhan Pahmuk, in the Times Literary Supplement Review: Wonderful poetic translation - I've read the original Persian growing up in Iran. The English translation is truly amazing. The essence of Nizami's magical and colorful poetry is so well reflected. Review: Persian poetic masterpiece reflecting previously high Iranian culture's imprisonment in the narrow dungeon of barbarous Islam. - It's apparently a good translation of a classical Persian work, which like so many things of that region, seems to be aching to escape from the straight-jacket of closed-minded narrow Islamic dogma.

Low quality paper Hackett publication
Extremely low quality print, considering this is a Hackett publication. The print is hazy, low pigment as if printed on a home printer. I know these are sometimes printed on site, but this should not excuse the quality of a product that more approximate a cheap newspaper print than a book. This is not a review of the content, rather of the publication quality for a product of its cost.

Worthwhile Publication But Somewhat Tattered
I appreciate having access to this classic but, for the price, would have liked a better quality book, if nevertheless, used.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRINT
Absolutely horrendous print, the entirety of the book was so inconsistent with it's print ranging from relatively good to horrendously bad to the point where some words were barely intelligible, and this was quite literally every other page. Huge disappointment as I was very excited to have this be my first foray into Persian literature. Unless you want to read a book with a print that makes you feel as though you forgot to wear your glasses with how blurry the words on the pages were, I would advise you keep well away from this edition. It may have been a case of it being a one off flawed copy, but do you, as a customer, really want to gamble your money on the quality of the copy you receive ?

Beautiful
I wish I could read this in the original. But I canโt. Still, the translation is beautiful, and the explanations lucid.

I am delighted with this
I am delighted with this, a thoroughly readable translation which helps me get what I want from the writing - the significance and use of colour.
