Titan Chick Heating Plate/Brooder Hen Heat Lamp Replacement - Up to 25 Chicks 12" x 12" - 20W

I have been hatching/raising poultry for years and have used just about every heat source available. Infrared heat lamps use INSANE amounts of electricity and can be dangerous if not enclosed, ceramic bulbs are a hazard because there is no way to know when it’s hot or cold (one of the worst burns of my life), heating pads don’t usually create enough heat, but THIS has it all. Safe to touch, indicator light for on or off, and super energy efficient. I will say that I wish it could get taller because my ducks outgrew it pretty quickly, but otherwise it is a game changer! I love that I don’t have to worry about safety or energy, and the birds really seem to love having the canopy, sort of the way they’d brood under their mother. Stop reading and buy it already!!!

Sooo glad i replaced my standard overhead heat lamp - of which the bulb burned out and i lost 3 chicks in the chill..!.. This 'Brood Hen' is Safer, and offered just the right Temperature for my remaining 5 chicks to nestle underneath. They loved to stay on the surface as they grew larger - even tho i raised it with the easy to adjust legs for them to fit beneath. i recommend this 100% as a safe and perfectly functioning chick brooder.

It works and my chicks love it. That's what really matters. However, it is hard to keep clean and there is really no way to regulate the heat except by the height of the legs and they love to sit on top of its large flat surface and poop all over it. So it's a pain to keep clean. So it has its ups and downs, pun intended🙂

I learned after purchasing this heater plate that this type of heat source isn’t recommended by my shipping hatchery. The strong argument is that they only heat under the plate leaving the areas of the brooder outside the plate too cold and discouraging chicks from eating and drinking in the too-cold areas. My chicks are to arrive in the mail today or tomorrow and I’m trying to get my brooder ready. The area under my 3” height Titan plate actually only gets to about 80 degrees about an inch it two from the plate. It’s hotter nearer the plate and too hot to touch the metal of the plate for long. I have the plate in an unheated shed and the temps range from about 55 during the day and 40 over night. The areas of my brooder outside the plate aren’t much above ambient temps-much too cold for the chicks and I can surely see that chicks wouldn’t want to eat or drink outside the plate. So first I tried supplementing the plate with a hanging heat lamp. I used a 150 wat ceramic, reptile heater bulb-the kind that doesn’t emit light to keep the chicks circadian rhythm normal and minimize fire risk (the reason I went with the heater plate in the first place). I reasoned that I could avoid a 250 watt lamp because I would use both the lamp and my original Titan heater plate. Still temps only got to about 77 outside the heater plate, directly under the heat lamp that was located at its minimum safe height of 12-13 inches above my pine litter. So I then had to go to the store and buy another heat lamp. This time I went for the big gun 250 watt red heat lamp-the kind I was trying to avoid in the first place. It works like a charm. 90-100 degree heat under the lamp, night and day respectively. I’m keeping the Titan heat plate in the brooder too to act as a backup, in case the bulb should fail. I think the plate will work along with the reptile, ceramic 150 watt bulb when the chicks are a couple of weeks old and need lower (85 degree) temps so I’m still glad I have them. I don’t think the heater plate, or any other heater plate, would be sufficient by itself with any situation except where ambient temperatures are 80 to 85 degrees. I do like it as a failsafe backup to maybe keep the chicks alive for a night if the 250 watt bulb should fail. If I had a do-over, I’d get a 250 watt heat lamp (or 150 watt if ambient temps are high enough) and I prefer the non-light emiting, ceramic, reptile type. I’d also have the heater plate to use as a failsafe along with the appropriate bulb. The heater plate works well as a backup. You could use a second heat lamp as a failsafe but if one of the lamps failed the brooder temperature would be too cool where the heater plate stays nearly warm enough underneath. I will say that the Titan plate seems to be robust, easy to use, and very well-priced. I think it’s a nice plate, for the type. It would work well in warm ambient temps like a warm, heated indoor space or when outdoor temps are above 80 or so. It would also work by itself for chicks over a couple of weeks old, though the adjustable height maximum and plate area might not be adequate, certainly not for long.

I love that the legs are adjustable so you can change the height as they grow. I use this indoors and it feels much safer than a heat lamp. The chicks sleep through the night since there is no light emitted. I need to purchase a second one!

only complaint , is there is no way to tell if its working unless you touch the plate under the plastic roof ,you plug it in 60 min. later its at temp, there should be a light so you can look at it and know all is well , instead of having to reach under and touch the plate . other wise i love it . i set it in a tote, had 12 standard chicks 28 bantams , 40 chicks n all , all were warm an happy , plastic roof is easy to clean as the chicks like to hop up there and poop , i put 1 side pf the plate higher than the other so chicks could move to warmer or cooler , , great deal

First time using a brooder plate. At first I was afraid it would burn the chicks because I am unable to leave my fingers on it. My chicks are now 3 weeks old and none of them were singed and very little past butt. I used a lamp in addition the first week just to increase the ambient temp but not for primary heat. So nice not to have to be constantly watching temps like you have to when using a lamp for primary heat. This brooder plate is hot but works great for healthy chicks.

Sturdy & long lasting. Safe to use with newborn chicks. Easy to clean. A must have for brooding. This is my second purchase of this brooder & will purchase again as my brood gets larger!

This brooder plate has been amazing for my chicks. It’s simple to set up, easy to adjust the height, and the chicks took to it right away. I love that it mimics the natural way chicks would gather under a hen — they seem calmer and more comfortable compared to using a heat lamp. One of my favorite features is how you can set the plate at a slight angle so that chicks of different sizes can all use it comfortably. The smaller ones snuggle under the lower side, while the bigger ones fit under the higher side. It makes it super versatile as they grow. It holds temperature really well, and I don’t have to worry about overheating or fire risk like with a heat lamp. It’s also way more energy-efficient. The build feels sturdy, and it’s easy to wipe clean between batches. I honestly don’t have a single complaint. If you’re raising chicks, this is absolutely worth it for peace of mind and for keeping them healthy and happy. I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

Works great! Had one previously and just got a larger batch of chicks this year so got another and put them side by side and the chicks are thriving! And I do t have to worry about it starting a fire like with the lamps! Only thing I wish is they had covers for the top as the chicks jump on top amd poop all over the top, a plastic cover would be nice !

Never used brooder plates before. Hummed and hawed over which one to buy. Seen some scary reviews about chicks getting burnt, or them not being warm enough. Finally settled on getting two of this model. These are electronics, they’re bound to have some flaws. Ran both for a few days prior to use, kept a blue tooth thermometer under it to track the heat. Both worked proper, also got to understand what heights to set them at. Had 16 chicks hatch. Week one, we used 1 brooder plate and it was more than enough for 16 chicks. Set it up with a slight tilt front to back. Allowed the chicks to find the sweet spot for warmth. Week 2- we separated the 9 Orpington chicks from the BYM chicks (7) into their own bins. Everything is going great so far. Really happy with the Titan brooder plates. Would buy again, and would suggest this model.

Great product and very good quality. This is my second year using it, and I like it enough that I would definitely buy another unit if needed. My only minor complaint is that the 'pebbled' pattern on the top makes it a bit hard to clean. Otherwise, it's been excellent!
