Is this normal** A: The base plate is supposed to heat up to evaporate the water, but I’ve found that by standing it on a flat hard surface (like a plastic tray) it allows the heat to escape as air can circulate beneath the unit. As far as I know, you can't switch that light off, but it is a very small light. At the beginning, there is a bit of a plastic-like smell, so I recommend running it once or twice before you install it in the bedroom. The noise on the upper level is tolerable, but present. When you switch to a lower level, I have no trouble sleeping with that. Also, the more intensive setting uses the water quickly, and in my opinion, it would not be running around 8 hours.
