He has dropped the ipad numerous times (open and closed) and it has never been scratched our fallen out. When it is dropped closed, the cover has stayed closed. The style of propping up the ipad is good. I would prefer if the cover folded back to prop it up though. as it is if he has it close to the edge of the table it can be easily pushed off by accident. But it does keep the ipad standing up nicely.One small worn spot has developed on an edge, but no big deal. We don't have an apple pencil, so I cannot say anything about the pencil slot. I'm glad the slot is there though in case we get one in the future.durable, keeps the device inside if dropped, magnetic cover.Don't use the keyboard much but we did try it out and it's nice. They kids thought the colors were neat..
